So I got this crazy idea the other day but I'm having trouble putting it all together, so why not ask my fellow fishermen. I'll try my best to explain this:

Started collecting old antique fishing lures, I don't use them just collect them. I would never sell them, the story behind them is what drives me to collect them. Whose was it? Did they help catch their PB? Where did it come from? Etc. It's hard to know the story from one's I pick up online or at a yard sale. I'm thinking of reaching out to older fishermen that might have that lure with a great story and seeing if they would be willing to share that with me (along with the lure or something similar). That way that story is passed on. Unfortunetly, some of us are never able to pass our "the one that got away story," trying to help avoid that. Eventually I would put everything into a book, a book of stories and pictures, of fishermen for fishermen. Figured this would be the best place to start the search and maybe get some ideas...

What do you guys think?

I think it's a great idea.  We get so caught up in "newer and better" that we forget the essence of the sport.  I say go for it.

If papaw was still alive, he could tell you a couple novels worth of stories about every lure he ever casted. We sat on the breezeway and went through every lure in every one of his tackle boxes dozens of times. I still have a few of those plugs but they aren't for sale. Suspended one of his old lures (lucky 13 red/white) from the ceiling to where it's dangling in front of my mounted bass. Kind of looks like the fish is knocking the popper up out of the water

I have a several dozen wooden plugs that I purchased new or found back in the 50's and early 60's that fall into the antique category today. Willing to sit down and list them adding a fish story for each lure.

I bought a used Calcutta Conquest 50 from Japan, and that thing sure has seen action, the reel performs very well, but it has a large number of battle scars.. I would kill to give that reel the ability to talk, and tell me what in the heck it was doing over there in Japan

Compiling the stories with pictures of said lures into a book sounds pretty cool.

It'll be one hell of a piece of fiction!

lol might have to use that for the quote at the beginning of the book, ill give you credit of course haha

My Grampaw had a magic dancing  bobber  . It would dance up and down , while mine just sat there . LOL. I didnt realize that he was doing it . When I would peek  he was holding everything still , then look at the bobber and it would dance .

Me? have stories?  with my war and peace length posts? The hobbit, and lord of the rings trilogy, would have nothing over my "brief" keyboard interactions about bass lures, and stories behind them.

I actually wonder if god will allow me the time left here on earth to do so,..LOL!
