I have some of these on order. Cheaper than the IKA and some cool colors.i read mixed reviews. Mostly saying it's too soft, even softer than a senko. Just curious what you folks have to say about it.

Sinks slower.

Tentacles do the opposite of an Ika, they flair out on the fall vs bunch up.

Softer than an Ika.

I like Ikas more, but Hydras do catch fish

You got some great baits there! Yes they are soft, but so are keitechs. Ive beeb using them for 3 years now, always have one tied on.

1. try rigging them backwards like an ika :)

2. a bottle of mendit, will be your friend!

3. experiment by cutting the skirt portion off, and attach it to a different color body. Makes for some killer baits. i won a tourney by doing just that.

Your gonna lose some, and tear some. Its no different than fishin a keitech. Another great bait,,,,Damiki Finess Miki :)

I like the 4/0 deep throat ewg for the ika. That's what I planned on using for the hydra.

Do you or have you used the GYB fat ika?

I had good luck with them on a drop shot rig in the middle of reed beds. I would rig it on one of those weedless spin shot hooks and cast and retrieve it. Didn't need to work it much, and the fish seemed to like it.

I bought a pack of the finesse size ones at the beginning of last year.   I wanted to use them as sort of a tube substitute for smallmouth in a river I fish, so I stuck one on a 1/0 twistlock and cast it out.

If I hadn't given up and reeled it in, I think it would still be drifting to the bottom to this very day.

I stuck the rest of them on small 1/16oz jigheads and they perform about the same as any other small tube.

Now that I know a little more, I might pick up a pack of the full-size ones to see how they do verse the ika.

Lol whatttt!?????????? Im sure you have many techniques that produce..but put that on your to do list for 2017. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Have you ever used a GY product that didn't catch bass ? I haven't.  And I think this could be even better than the senko in certain situations.

Yea, I too have really never fished the ika, despite owning a few packs of them.  I used them a few times with no hits, then another time where I was getting bit, but my rod was not up to making the hooksets.  They are on the list for next year.

They are way to soft for my liking.I also have never even had a bite on them. They do look really cool though.

I use this bait as a "Dead Stick Bait", Shakey Head, Ned Rig, Neko Rig and Dropshot.

I've used them in a tributary running into the Potomac, full of bass, and fished the side by side with the Fat Ika.  I caught fish on both....no difference between the two.  Fished them side by side on the same day.  They're good baits.  If you have a location or time frame in which you use the Ika...or if you have confidence in the Ika, be confident throwing the Hydra also.
