I have one baitcast setup that I want to get new line for and I was wondering what type of line to use. I mostly fish ponds with alot of different lures. Could use some help, thanks

If I was going to do everything with one set up, it would be braid and swap out leaders to accommodate what you want

X2. Especially with ponds where you might be fishing some narly stuff without the option to fish open water as much. I would definitely want frogs to be an option if I exclusively fished ponds.

Standard largemouth attack for me is 50lb braid with 12lb mono or FC leader. You could also go 10lb leader if you aren't fishing heavy weeds/cover. 10lb is actually a better match with thickness of 50lb braid for joining lines, and plenty strong for most fishing.

Unless you're fishing some nasty slop, I would go with 30 or 40 lb braid and tie on whatever size leader best suits the bait/technique you're fishing at any given time.

15lb Big Game or P line C21 unless you fish lots of weedy ponds, then I'd go with the braid.

Go braid! Most guys don't like it, but I prefer Power Pro Super Slick, and I use it for everything. If I were going to do everything with just one rod, I think I would go to 15 or 20lb braid. You can tie an 8lb leader to it and fish finess worms, or you can tie a 20lb leader and fish a jig or a texas-rig.

For versatility 15 to 20 lb braid.

Uni to uni  would work great for 4 to 12 lb mono or FC.  I too like power pro

I know several guys on here use 15-20# braid on baitcasting reels.  When I got back into fishing in '09, the consensus was to use 40# minimum...which is what I did.  Never had a problem with it digging in.  I bought a used reel that came with 30# braid.  When I started using it I had to make several casts and pull out extra line each time until I got rid of the spots where the line had dug in.  I haven't had a problem since even though I've been snagged on lily pads.  i do hold the line on retrieves every so often to make sure it stays fairly tight on the reel.

Personally I'd be hesitant to use that light of a braid on my only baitcast rod.  I must admit, tho, that I am mostly a mono/co-polymer guy.  If you fish in weeds, then ya, I'd go braid.  However, I wouldn't be using a leader in weeds.  I use braid in weeds to save my lures.  Adding a leader negates that benefit.

My go to line is a 12# mono or co-polymer such as AN40 or Siege.  If I had to worry about abrasion, I'd go with P-Line CXX or Izorline Platinum or possibly Big Game as I've read it is also pretty good for abrasion resistance.  I use Big Game in 8# and 12#, but I don't know how abrasive resistant it is because where I fish it is not a problem.

Power Pro 30# and 50# braid in the bayous and lakes of Louisiana. Between the trees, grass and structure/cover and whatever it is needed. Imo it comes down to water clarity.

so braid with leaders would be the way to go, what pound test

I use 20#, but you'd be fine if you are more comfortable
with 30#. Issue some have with thinner diameter braid is
digging in to the spool. This will happen when you are
snagged, pull hard, reel in a fish, tight drag, etc. If you are
aware of this possibility and periodically pull out line from
your reel, you'll be ok (I don't have issues with 20# fwiw).

As for leaders, I will use from 6#-15# -- you can go higher
if you are in nasty slop, downed trees, etc.
