BrackishBassin Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Since I won't be able to get my hands on the reel prior to purchasing it, does anyone have recommendations for a rod that would match up well with a CT? The only reel I have hands on experience with is the Abu Garcia Black Max. How do they compare with size? Thanks! Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted December 6, 2016 Super User Posted December 6, 2016 If your current Abu feels good on a rod then the CT will be great on that rod. You are going like that reel. I have been changing my arsenal over to Daiwas. I have a bunch of Tatula Type Rs and CTs. Quote

Our discussions have been one of the reasons I started looking at them more seriously. In the end, it was the breaking that clinched it. I've spent all my time with magnetic breaks so far and don't want to relearn with centrifugal. I also like the ability to adjust without messing with the sideplate. The rod I have the Black Max on was a combo rod, so I will have to see if it fits well. I've also been looking at the Ugly Stik Elites. Have the spinning version and the guides really are bullet proof. Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted December 6, 2016 Super User Posted December 6, 2016 What is your budget for a rod? What would you be using it most often? Maybe keep your Black Max combo and get a different action for your second one. There are tons of good deals out right now depending on your budget. One example is Gander Mountain.Their Abu Garcia Vendetta rods are buy one get one free for $79.99. I fish 2 Veritas rods and like them. I also fish 1 Abu Garcia Ike rod and like it. I have never held a Vendetta but I would recommend looking at them. Lots of other deals out there as well. Just to give you an idea what I have matched up. All of these feel great in your hand. Daiwa Exceler 6.3 RH Falcon Bucoo Micro 7 ft Trap Caster Medium Mod rod used for crankbaits Daiwa Tatula R 100 6.3 RH Irod Genesis Gabes Rip Rap SPCL 7 ft MED MOD cranks/ traps Daiwa Tatula CT 6.3 LH BPS Extreme 6 ft MD LT Mod used for lightweight swimbaits like Keitecks Daiwa Tatula CT 6.3 LH Powell Max 683 MH XF jigs, swim jigs, tx rigged plastics Daiwa Tatula Type R 8-1 Abu Garcia 7 ft MH mod frogs Daiwa Tatula Type R 8-1 Abu Garcia Ike Series 6'4" Jerkbait rod Diawa Tatula CT 6.4 -1 BPS Rick Clunn 6'6" Med Mod Topwaters I will be changing at least 5 more reels next year. 1 Quote
BrackishBassin Posted December 6, 2016 Author Posted December 6, 2016 I'd like to keep the rod under $100, but closer to $50 the better. I spend a majority of my time bank fishing, and I only carry two rods with me at a time. I always have a spinning rod and a baitcaster. So, it would need to do just about everything short of dealing with heavy cover. If I thought I'd run into any of that, I'd break down and bring my Black Max combo with me since I have it spooled with 50lb braid. I think that a medium power rod with either a fast or moderate fast action would be the most versatile rod I could carry with me. I'd like to cover as many bases as I can with that one rod. Quote
ghost Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Berkley Amp casting rod, $30. I have the 7' MH. Quote
CenCal fisher Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Skip the $30 rod and get a $100 rod for $50 instead. Fisherman factory outlet is a website that has great deals on rods check out the last two or three pages of this thread for current deals Quote

Fisherman factory outlet is a website that has great deals on rods check out the last two or three pages of this thread for current deals Thanks! I watch FFO and peruse the deal thread occasionally. I hate to admit it, but I'm a bit OCD. Was keeping an eye on the Fenwick stuff FFO has. Great deals on their Aetos casters, but they're a weird blue-ish green color. That would look god awful with a black and red reel, imo. Like I said, I'm weird like that. Quote

Like I said, I'm weird like that. The blue of the Aetos doesn't show up that great indoors but this it what it looks like with a tatula type r. The picture showing the underside of the reel is closer to how the blue looks outside. I never noticed a black and red reel looking out of place 1 Quote

They look like a completely different color online. So weird. Those pictures definitely help! Quote
