(='_'=) Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 hey. i have an Elite 5 HDI and Elite 7 chirp... iim trying to download and use a map from the Social Maps on Insight Genesis... theres a map from my local lake that somebody did, but i dont know how to view it in my units. i downloaded the file, and it went to the Download folder in my computer. so i dragged it to the microSD card, and then extracted the files from there. Then i removed the original file. im installing the sd card before turning on the units. but, when i turn it on, im not getting the dialog box asking me to use the map, as the instructions mention (step 16) https://insightgenesis.wordpress.com/2015/06/25/how-to-download-a-free-insight-genesis-social-map-chart-for-fishing-cruising-or-sailing/ but when i move the cursor to the lake, i cant see the contours or anything, it appears just as it does without the card... what am i missing?? thank you... eddallen Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Dbl click the file inside the download folder and unzip it to the SD card. You MUST send just the files to the card....also make sure your unit is a registered unit with IG. Quote

keeganzpapa Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 I have been studying this as I am getting the hook 4 for Christmas. Would you view this video and see if anything in it helps? Please let me know. Administrator, please forgive me, I don't know how I got this video opened and posted. I only meant to post the reference. I don't know how to undo what I did, so I will take my lashings. Quote

(='_'=) Posted December 11, 2016 Author Posted December 11, 2016 thanx for the video! thats pretty much what i did... since i hadnt logged anything, i tried downloading a map from the Social Maps, i extracted the files to my sd card, but my units didnt recognize it, as the map didnt show as in the video.... i have already uploaded my log from a trip this week, and it created a map, which i can see on my computer... i have yet to download it to the card and see if it shows on the units though, i havent had time to do it, but ill try with the map i created... Super User WIGuide Posted December 19, 2016 Super User Posted December 19, 2016 I love using IG. There's so many lakes up here that either don't have maps at all, or really crappy ones with 5' contours...not that bad if it's a deep lake but some only average 7-10' deep so looking at it with 5' contours makes the lake look like a giant flat. A few tips, make sure you start out with a completely blank sd card. Other files can see to take the locators ability to recognize a map on the card. Secondly I keep lake files on my computer all in one big folder. When I download a new lake, I'll create an empty folder and name it the lake name. Once I download the map, I extract the files into that lake's folder. When I'm ready to go to that lake I copy and paste the lake file onto my sd card. You can load multiple lakes that way as well and the locator will cycle through them at startup asking you if you want to load that particular lake. Whether you save the files on your computer or not, be sure to extract them from the download folder into a file on the sd card. Do not drag them from the download folder and then extract them to the same location. When you're done, the only thing that should be a folder on the sd card with your lakes name, and within that folder there should be the 5 lake files. Also, double check that the numbers you entered for your plotters is correct. If not, you can do everything right and it will still not display. Quote

When you download, the files, right click on them in the download folder and select "extract to" once you do they will be decompressed and usable. You'll want to put those files in a folder so it's only the extracted files. Then copy the folder with extracted files to your sd card. Yes by numbers I mean serial number and if I remember correctly there's another number you have to go into your unit and find to enter. If you do not enter them correctly online in your plotter profile it won't allow the maps to work on your unit. Quote
(='_'=) Posted February 26, 2017 Author Posted February 26, 2017 well, i still have not been able to figure it out.... my unit reads the files, as i can see them in the Browse Files menu.... but this is the map i get another person said the maps should display in the Chart menu, but i can only see Navionics or Lowrance cards... i dont know what other numbers i need to input to register the unit, IG only asks for the serial number... the tag has a number, but one of the menus has another number (the last 5 digits of the tags number)... i already tried both, with no luck.... bigbasshunter Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 OP, How many plotters do you have registered with Insight Genesis? If you have more than one let's take a step back and remove all but console unit. Double check your Serial number and Content ID for console unit and make sure they are identical to what you've input in IG. Detailed instructions here to find serial# and content ID : https://www.google.com/amp/s/insightgenesis.wordpress.com/2015/06/02/how-to-register-your-sonargps-units-to-be-able-to-display-insight-genesis-maps/amp/ If they do not match delete and start over by adding a new plotter. Once you get all that input correctly if need be, go download social map of choice. Extract the 5 files directly to your sd card. Insert sd in the plotters associated with IG. If everything was input into IG plotter info correctly you will get a prompt for loading maps. Are your plotters networked together via ethernet cable? If so you'll only need one copy of the social map as the units will share mapping via ethernet cable. Just use your console unit as the main unit and bow unit as the slave unit. Quote
(='_'=) Posted March 4, 2017 Author Posted March 4, 2017 thanx!! i have 2 units, a 5 and a 7, the 5 cant be networked, so i have to download maps for each unit... i really appreciate your answer, i just noticed on Content ID i wrote "maps" when i registered... i didnt realize it was a specific number... i will do that as soon as i get home... thanx again!! eddallen Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 Also realize the serial# on the 'outside' of the unit is different than the serial# inside the unit. Use the # from the inside. Quote
