Pond fishing in florida

Going to florida i a couple of weeks to the sarasota area. Any tips on pond fishing around the area?

I don't live in Florida.. but know what works in summer ponds in my parts. Maybe @soflabasser. Or @N Florida Mike. Can chime in . They always have good posts and both seem knowledgeable especially in their area. 

Senkos. Weightless t rigged and wacky. any color Ive bought has produced from black to chartreuse. 

Also the fat IKA . One of the best plastics I've ever used. 

Double tail hula grub- fish it how you want . Weightless / t rigged/ on a jig head. 

Fluke and paddle tail swimbaits. Weightless or On a keel weighted hook or split shot rig

Rapala scatter rap shad. Got some nice ones this year with this. I like the perch (based on results.)

Top water man hit em up with a popper or frog. 

T rigged craws and ribbon tails. 

Jig! Fish a jig for your sake they work year round. 

Try flipping a beaver style baits close to any cover , cat tails or islands , sunken trees. I like the rage bug. Sweet beaver is nice too. Also the pit boss is cheap and produces.

In Florida the 4" watermelon / red senko, or stick-o Texas Rigged, will catch fish anywhere, anytime, and any size.  Use a light weight, or no weoght, so it slowly sinks through the entire water column.  Then jerk and slack and it will walk along the bottom.  This can be deadly!  In Cold water (below 60*) our Florida bass will get sluggish, so let it sit after a four or five jerks and pause.  Unlike northern largemouths our true Florida strain will be effected by northern cold fronts.  You can still catch them, just slow way down.  I would not leave home without this bait!

Thanks @Yeajray231. The lure recommendations you gave are good,I would add spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, and buzzbaits to the list.

For spinnerbaits and buzzbaits I like using Booyah,Strike King and for jerkbaits I like using Rapala.

I don't use many buzzbaits. But have a couple nice booyah spinnerbaits.  Ditto on the rapala man!

Buzzbaits are awesome nightime lures to use,especially near aquatic vegetation, or anywhere bass are in relatively shallow water. I am very fond of Rapalas and have a big collection of them like you do as well.Most of them are missing paint (from all the fish that bit them),but I do have a couple Rapalas in unopened packages.

I have a couple.. I'll have to give em a go next time im fishing at night. ! I'm also going to try some chtterbaits next season. do you usually use a trailer ? If so which ones ? 

Ha-ha yea !? I have a couple that are retired.. mostly because I've had em since I was 12 (over a decade ago) and somehow managed to keep them..  do you have a favorite model ? I know they have em for all situations but surely you have one that's your favorite.

I honestly haven't fished much with chatterbaits, but my cousin in Lakeland does quite well with them so they are definitely a good lure to use in South Florida. I got Rapalas that are so beat up that they look like they got dragged behind a car, still fish these old Rapalas on special occasions. It's hard to only pick one type of Rapala as my favorite since they work so well, but the Rapala X-Rap is definitely in my top 5. They also work quite well for Saltwater fish down here,so it's a very good multi species lure to have.

Ha-ha top 5!!!! That's funny... yea the x-rap is sweet ! I have a x rap shallow shad that is killer when I go pond fishing. Also an x rap countdown that has caught a couple decent ones bombing it out in the middle when they are suspended deep with that summer heat... my favorite is probably the jointed shad rap. I was out on a Jon boat with my buddy one time on a lake I'd never been to. This was awhile ago 5-6 years.. I don't remember what he was throwing but we were getting skunked til I tied one of those on. And caught 3 in 3 casts. He was a little irritated cuz it was "his lake" ha-ha.

Haven't fished the jointed shad rap yet, but the regular jointed minnow is another of my  favorite Rapalas. That guy must of been so salty after you out fished him! Lol

He was a good friend. So he took it in stride. I had to eat crow one night tho we were fishing a power plant lake. (I had been hitting the bottle a little) and we came into this channel that was coming right from the powerplant. The water was super warm and we were catfishing . After an hour or so we had a run and he had a nice catfish on the line . He had it at the surface and was trying to pull it in.. and I was trying to net it.. and it shook the hook.. I didn't look like such a pro then.
