bassinNorthMS Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 Hello all, So im possibly looking for some new line recomendations. I'm currently using PLine and though I don't really have any complaints, I'd like to keep an open mind and try some new stuff out. For most applicants I use the PLine C21 copolymer, because let's face it.. It's very inexpensive. Again, I have no complaints as of yet. I've never broken a fish off up to this current time. It seems to have low memory (in my opinion). So let's get down to the nuts and bolts of this post. What brand lines do you use and why? Thanks in advance for any and all information Wes Quote
FrankN209 Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 Yo-Zuri Hybrid. Strong and very inexpensive. You can find it a TW for 11.00 @ 600yrds. 1 Quote
cottny27 Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 I second Yo-Zuri. The C21 from my experience didn't handle as nice. I gave it about two trips, but maybe I had a bad batch. I figured I got what I paid for. The Yo-Zuri Ultra Soft I even had good luck with on cranks with 10# test. 2 Quote
Attila Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 I've been a fan of Seaguar InvizX for fluro and PowerPro Super8Slick for braid. I've gone away from mono and am okay with that. I fish a lot of reaction style baits including jerkbaits, topwaters, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and chatterbaits and stick with the above two types as they are easy to work with and have little to no memory. In many respects InvizX handles much like mono as it has a small amount of stretch which I find works well for crankbaits when matched with a glass rod setup. I also use it as my dedicated UL line at 4lbs test. The rest of the time I am using it as a leader attached to my main line which is braid as described above. I like Super8Slick as it's very easy to cast and I haven't lost any noticeable time dealing with professional override situations. The only application I use it for as a standalone line is topwater fishing. I find that using braid as a mainline gives me a better connection to the lure and I can control what it's doing more easily while fishing which is important when it comes time to change up retrieves for one reason or another. Along with the above handling characteristics, I think you'll find the cost associated with both types of line to be in the moderate to low category. They come in a wide variety of pound test which means I can always find one that suits the type of fishing I'm doing. From a strength perspective, I don't think I've ever had a fish break off either of the above, and that includes landing some decent sized musky which were running up against some rocks during their capture while I was out bass fishing. Cheers, hope that whatever you decide to do that you have confidence in your choice! 3 Quote
cottny27 Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 Both InvizX & AbrazX are top notch imo and my go to line. For inexpensive line, I like Yo-Zuri. 1 Quote
Super User Darren. Posted December 5, 2016 Super User Posted December 5, 2016 The old adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" can apply here... except if you are just wanting to try something new. Lines can get expensive... Never tried C21, but I have P-Line Floroclear in 6-15# test and like it very much. Also use Yo-Zuri Hybrid in 4-15# test and it is also an excellent line. Hard to beat, IMO. I'm currently using Gamma Edge fluorocarbon in 6, 8 and 10# test and *really* like the stuff. I'm only using it (and everything I mentioned above) as leader material. Been quite pleasantly surprised at how strong Gamma Edge is - esp in 6#. 1 Quote
The Bassman Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 There's a lot of good lines and as you can see you're getting plenty of suggestions. One thing I learned a while back is to compare lines by diameter ( in mm not inches). There's no common standard for strength ratings. 3 Quote
Super User Raul Posted December 5, 2016 Super User Posted December 5, 2016 I've fished with Berkely Trilene Big Game 10 to 17 lbs test for decades. I added a couple of lines Yo-Zuri Hybrid 6 lbs for light lure applications, PLine CXX for flipping to heavy cover because that thing is nearly indestructible. 1 Quote
CTBassin860 Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 50# Power Pro Braid 15# Sunline Assassin Flouro 17# Suffix Elite Mono All 3 are tough as nails. 1 Quote
Stingray23 Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 I use Seaguar Invizx for all my moving baits. I like the little stretch it has. Excellent for jerkbaits, cranks, and spinnerbaits. I use Seaguar Tatsu on my spinning setup and my worm/jig setup. Its excellent line. I use Sunline FX2 braid on my frog/pitchin' setup. Best braid IMO. I also keep one reel with 15lb P-Line CXX for topwater. 1 Quote
bassinNorthMS Posted December 6, 2016 Author Posted December 6, 2016 Thanks to all of you for the replies. I'm really just trying to get some ideas. I've had wonderful experience with the C21 PLine and I use the PLine flouroclear for my crankbait rods. I'm just thinking of trying some new things out to broaden my spectrum. I've pretty much been a PLine user since day 1 and I feel their are other great lines out there. From the looks of all the replies I should have no problem finding some new product! Quote

If you want to branch out, I suggest you try out Invizx first. Its a very manageable fluoro line that cast extremely well. 2 Quote

Oklahoma Mike Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 FC: Seaguar Tatsu on casting reels and Seaguar Finesse on spinning reels Braid: Seaguar Smackdown Copoly: YZH Mono: Big Game I recently bought a spool of YGK G-Soul Upgrade X-8 to try out on a spinning setup but haven't spooled it up yet. It is similar to Gliss, and I'm hoping it will provide the same benefits without some of the shortcomings of Gliss. I'm excited to try it out and will post a review after I've had a chance to fish it. Quote

Maybe not as much as something like CXX, but its very good for fluoro. I fish in reservoirs where there are a lot of rocks and I have never had it break off. Quote
hawgenvy Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 When using shallow moving baits like squarebills, jerkbaits, swimbaits, spinnerbaits, etc., the increased density of fluorocarbon makes it easier to keep the point where the line enters the water further from the bait. So with FC the wake of the line at the water's surface is less likely to spook the fish ahead of the lure. I personally use a lot of Invizx in 10, 15, and 17. But mono or braid for topwater or heavy cover. Quote

That's pretty much all that's in Mississippi are resivours, with the exception of a small cut of pickwick and bay springs. I still like my PLine very much I may end up going back but it never hurts to try new stuff out 48 minutes ago, hawgenvy said: When using shallow moving baits like squarebills, jerkbaits, swimbaits, spinnerbaits, etc., the increased density of fluorocarbon makes it easier to keep the point where the line enters the water further from the bait. Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 6, 2016 Global Moderator Posted December 6, 2016 I use P Line C 21 or Xtra strong a lot, as well as Big Game. I use Seaguar or Sufix for my braided line needs. In fluoro I use Seaguar flipping flouro or Tatsu. 1 Quote
freelancer27 Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 I am throwing Maxima Green into the discussion. Good quality mono! 1 Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted December 6, 2016 Super User Posted December 6, 2016 I purchased a couple 3000 yard spools of Silver Thread AN40 at the suggestion of a fellow member. I also use a lot of Siege. Like the Neon Tangerine! The same member who recommended AN40 to me has since tried Spiderwire Ultracast Ultimate Mono and feels it is the best mono he has ever used. McCoy is also highly recommended by many. I also use Big Game and Trilene. Trilene was the only line I used in the old days. Still a good line, but I wanted to try some different brands. All line coils after setting for a bit. For me Big Game is more likely to cause problems on the first few casts compared to most lines I use. It is fine once wet. I've got 10# Sunline Super Natural on one reel. Seems like a good line. Buying different lines to try can wind up like buying different rods and reels...............you wind up with more than you know what to do with. Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted December 6, 2016 Global Moderator Posted December 6, 2016 Braid...Power Pro / frogs, swim baits, all top water and punching (considering trying Seaguar's fipping braid) Flouro...Sunline Sniper / All bottom contact presentation's. Co Poly...Yo Zuri / All other moving baits Don't use mono for anything Mike 3 Quote
BrackishBassin Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 PowerPro for my braid needs and Suffix or Berkley Big Game for mono, depending on what I'm using it for. I use them because they work. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted December 6, 2016 Super User Posted December 6, 2016 I keep it simple: Power Pro for braid........Original works great for me, I may try the MaxQuatro this year. Seaguar for fluoro. I like Red label for leader material, and in the rare occasion I use Fluoro as a main line, It's Inviz-X on spinning, Abras-X on casting. And Trilene for mono, in the rare instances I ever use mono any more. Of all the Trilene mono's, I prefer Sensation on spinning gear, and big game on casting. 1 Quote

I've considered trying that out but it's pretty expensive lol 1 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted December 6, 2016 Global Moderator Posted December 6, 2016 I really like it. I've used many different brands, most all that has already been mentioned, but to me Sniper is just so much better. It cast's better, has better knot strength, and has less memory and stretch than anything I've tried. Yes, it is pricey compared to most but to me it's well worth it. Mike Quote
