Gillroid 9000 Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 While looking through catalogs, websites Etc i noticed they werent that much bluegill imitation lures. 90 percent of the lures i find try to immitate Frogs,Shad,Smelt,Trout,Baby Bass,Crawdads and stuff bass Loves. I know they are some lures offered in Bluegill colors and there are some out there but i am not a hard bait fan, Alot of Bluegill Immitation lures tend to be pricey. So is there any Bluegill immitation lures that will be able fool bass that the lure is a bluegill? Quote
Super User WRB Posted December 3, 2016 Super User Posted December 3, 2016 Huddleston HuddGil Matt Lures, soft and hard gills Just go to TW and look at technique specific under swimbaits. There are several bluegill crankbaits patterns availble like Bagley Small Fry. Tom Quote
Super User MIbassyaker Posted December 3, 2016 Super User Posted December 3, 2016 Pretty much any watermelon or green pumpkin colored jig makes a decent approximation to a bluegill. Many companies make jigs, bladed/vibrating jigs, and spinnerbaits with bluegill-patterned skirts, too. 1 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 3, 2016 Global Moderator Posted December 3, 2016 Are you talking about bluegill shaped baits or just bluegill imitators? There's a ton of bluegill colored baits out there. For sure one of the most often imitated prey species out there. The Mattlures soft gills are extremely realistic bluegill imitations. His U2 gill isn't that expensive. Jackall Gantarel or Gantarel Jr are very realistic gill glides that are pretty reasonable, but that's in the eyes of a guy that has no problems popping for a Deps Bullshooter. Not meaning this to be a jerk, but I got a little chuckle out of the fact that you're avatar is an Imakatsu Gillroid, but a Hudd Gill or Mattlures is too expensive. 5 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 3, 2016 Super User Posted December 3, 2016 Siebert Outdoors makes a blue gill pattern swim jig that is KILLER! I match the jigs up with Rage Tail Structure Bugs, Shellcracker and Menace. http://www.siebertoutdoors.com/Swim-Jig-902.htm Quote

Fish it almost exclusively when the blue gill are spawning and it works like a charm. 2 Quote
Outdoor Zack Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 H20 Express squarebills, Rebel bluegill crankbait Quote
bagofdonuts Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 Hack attack heavy cover swim jig in blue gill with gambler little ez copper field color trailer. Best bream immatation I've found. You can find a pack of little ez for under 4 bucks. They are much more durable than other swim baits and the jig has a good keeper on it. Quote
Super User Columbia Craw Posted December 3, 2016 Super User Posted December 3, 2016 Check on Tackle Warehouse and you will find dozens of bluegill and bream pattern baits in the hard bait sections. Theres shallow cranks, bid cranks, prop baits, plastic baits, spinner baits and jigs. There's a bunch. Quote
William Rossi Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 Storm and Northland have small bluegill soft swims for cheap. I never did well on them. Fish are not that smart though so a standard swimjig or paddletail will produce better. Unless you are hawg hunting. Then go with the big realistic expensive ones. Quote

Anything in a green pumpkin with a dash of chartreuse thrown in will imitate a bluegill. 1 Quote

Bassfishnc18 Posted December 4, 2016 Posted December 4, 2016 Good bluegill imitations for me are bream colored chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, swimjigs, and most green pumpkin soft plastic swimsuits. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 4, 2016 Global Moderator Posted December 4, 2016 Bladed jigs and swim jigs are excellent bluegill imitations for very reasonable prices. I take a Hard Candy colored Rage Menace and dip just the tip of the tails in some chartreuse JJ's and rig it vertically on the back of this bladed jig and it looks ALOT like a baby bluegill in the water.
