Need your expert advice�

Hey guysI'm new here, but been lurking for a few months and feel you guys give good advice.

A buddy and I are looking at a boat to buy and would like your opinions. It's a 1973 16' Richline (?) with a 40hp Mercury and trolling motor. He's said the motor ran smooth last year but hasn't been service since he's had it (3yrs). The boat seeps a littleit was explain to us that if you're just trolling around most of the day it'll only get about an 1 of water, but it your going faster it'll leak more. He's asking $1500 or best offer, we thought about offering $1000. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance

I also don't like the idea that it takes on more water when it is running flat out. That is backwards. Every older boat that I have owned DRAINS water when I am planned out and running all out. Only when I was trolling around would they take on water. Sounds like whoever is trying to sell you this boat knows that there are structural issues and he'she is not coming clean. I'd walk away, but that's me. Good luck.

Hey mofishin...look in the Columbia Tribune online...thats where i live, there are a few boats in the paper i think worth a harder look than this one.

$250 - $300 boat, $250 - $300 motor and $75 trailer, If I were buying it, that's a long way from $1,500

If he hasn't used it in 3 years, how does he have any idea how much water it takes on? IMO his claims are worthless without a test run. I wouldn't buy it without pinpointing the leak and seeing what's involved with fixing it.

If everything checks out then it looks like a $900 bote.

I agree with Skwerl on the price.  I own a 1959 Richline 14' semi V with a 10hp johnson.  I only paid $800 for it with the trailer.  It is riveted and does not take on a bit of water at any time.  $1500 is WAYYYY to much.  Also agree with another poster....Put that thing on the water first and foremost.

Wow...Thank you very much guys. You've really opened our eyes on this. We started out thinking we might have found a reasonable deal, but now realize it's was way to much. My buddy ended asking him what his bottom dollar was and he only went down to $1200. That was enough to make us walk away. We'll keep looking and I hope you won't mind if we ask for your opinions again. Thanks again...
