WaterOtter Posted June 3, 2022 Posted June 3, 2022 The lure I'm most excited about in the ones I found this week is a big swim bait in orange clown shad. The hooks rusted off so I have to put on new ones, but otherwise it's in pretty good shape. I'll probably use it on braid with a steel leader. 7 Quote

My eyes instantly went to that popper on the top right and it made me think of Mike Tyson. ...then to the clownfish. Guess I'm weird that way. All cool finds though! 2 Quote
WaterOtter Posted June 4, 2022 Posted June 4, 2022 You're right, it does have a Mike Tyson thing going on that I hadn't noticed. Cool! I hadn't seen a Rebel-Pop'r -type with a lip before, or a swimbait with the plastic leader thing. I have some research to do to find out if they're any good. Quote
Drew03cmc Posted June 4, 2022 Posted June 4, 2022 I found a handful of square bills and Plopper 90s recently. Give them a scrub with some Dawn and an old toothbrush, new split rings and trebles and they're still being fished. It makes me wonder what one has to do to snag and lose a topwater. Quote

You mean how do people manage to lose so many Ploppers? I've wondered the same thing before, because I've found a lot of them and rarely lost one. The only one I remember losing was when I hooked a fish and it dove with the lure and went under a log and got hung up. Just this morning I lost a topwater lure when I hooked a nice one and she broke me off. I don't know if the line was frayed or what, but the fish nor the lure resurfaced. I'm hoping I don't see a nice fish floating in the next day or two. I do hope I see my lure floating. 1 Quote
Jmilburn76 Posted June 4, 2022 Posted June 4, 2022 Found this brand new Rapala jointed shad rap today just laying in grass by my truck. 4 Quote
Super User PhishLI Posted June 5, 2022 Super User Posted June 5, 2022 I caught this squarebill and sock/underwear(?) snag magnet wrapped with a bunch of braid and several other corroded baits attached. I probably should've just called a hazmat team to deal with it, but I'm thrifty.? No more cooties. Shaped up nicely. Bomber Square A. 4 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 5, 2022 Global Moderator Posted June 5, 2022 Found a Maverick colored Choppo 105 this past week. 2 trips in a row I found a plopper style bait now. 2 Quote
WVU-SCPA Posted June 6, 2022 Posted June 6, 2022 Snagged a lost fogy off a concrete foundation that has about a 3' face to it. Now if it would just give me everything else back I've lost on it. Think it will be salvageable after a couple months soak. 2 Quote
waymont Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Two newish Rapala, two consecutive days, two different lakes. 1-3.5” original in gold 1-3.5” broke back in gold two favorites on mine Quote

These are all knives I have found while fishing. The big one spent a few years underwater. I found it alongside a rod and reel covered with algae and stuff when the lake was down. I think someone must have capsized their kayak there. Top one John Rambo must of lost after he jumped off that cliff. Allen 1 Quote

I don't know why anyone would want a knife like that. I mean, you might as well get a machete or a sword. I was trying to clear some fishing line from a tree, and a flat-sided crank not even connected to that line fell out of the tree. I hadn’t even noticed it hidden in the leaves of the tree. It quickly sank to the bottom of the creek, so I went looking for a branch to retrieve it with, and I found the little H2O square bill just sitting on top of a log. . I never found a branch long enough, so I took the line I had pulled out of the tree and wound it into a coil and placed the coil inside the hook on my fluke and used that to hook the flat-sided crank. Pretty sweet. It was like the fishing gods were smiling on me. . Anyone know what the flat-sided crank is? It’s got a circuit board lip. No logo on it. Quote

Judging by the ones I find in the wild, I think many people use them as topwater lures in areas where they need a lure to stay up to clear obstructions, but that skinny rear end sinks fast and deep when the lure splashes down and when it pauses, and that sticky sharp rear hook grabs onto stuff. I find many in this predicament. I also marvel that floating free only a tiny amount of their face sticks above the surface. Man these are one of my favorite lures to find. The propeller blade tail's so cool and so is the quality construction! (true for the name brand ones, but I see the others catching up). Quote
fin Posted June 9, 2022 Posted June 9, 2022 That's as good a theory as any I guess. I think most of the ones I've found have just been floating, or sitting on the bank after rising water has subsided. I've found a few in trees, of course. I guess they are built pretty well. I've found some that look like they have been in the water for years, they are stained and paint is worn off, but they still work and the hardware is all good (besides the hooks, of course). Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 9, 2022 Global Moderator Posted June 9, 2022 I find most of my ploppers in trees and usually attached to very light line. I'm assuming they'd never fished on much and aren't use to a lure that cast as far as they do and ended up in the tree instead of the water. The ones I find in the water also tend to have light line tied to them so possibly they got bit by a good fish and just broke off and the fish worked the bait free. Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted June 13, 2022 Super User Posted June 13, 2022 Found this sick looking chatter in some standing timber. I don’t think this thing is on the market. Looks homemade but correct me if I’m wrong. The blade is made of a flexible plastic material. Everything still in great shape. Does not vibrate at slow speeds, but when run quicker, has an amazing side to side swim. The head is free swinging 5 Quote
