Those things are awesome , still for sale

Found 2 rods on shore this year at the creek. Seemed odd. I fished later than normal hoping the owner would come back, guarding the rods from would be thiefs. When nobody came for them I took them home.

Went back to the creek the next day and put up a sign:

"Fishing rods found! Email me and describe them and they are yours!" I also put up a video on my Youtube channel.

I was hoping these rods didn't belong to the jerks who leave garbage at that spot. If I knew they had I may have kept them.

An entire month later a guy emails me describing the rods perfectly. Said his friend sent him a photo of my sign. He came to pick them up from me. Said he was fishing with his 11 year old son and the boy had a seizure right on the bank. Helicopter airlifted him from the creek and he had to abandon the rods. One of the rods was given to him by his grandfather.

I am so glad this guy got his rods back. That really made me feel good.

I don't know what happened with his son. He said he was still "touch and go" at that time. I hope they got to fish again.

Rest of the story:

After 3 weeks I saw my sign was gone and it looked like nobody would claim the combos. I finally bought an FMG rod for one of the reels, I forget what reel it was. Black Maxx I think. Was gonna give away the other combo I figured.

They were cheap combos so I thought they may have been someones only gear and wanted to get it back to them. Anyways, after the rod arrived I heard from the owner like the next day. He even described the baits tied on.

So I ended up with a new rod with no reel and the bait monkey told me I should buy a Daiwa Fuego to match it. I love the reel and it's the most I've spent on a combo yet. Love the rod too. So we all ended up happy - owner, me and the bait monkey!

Found lure story:

I may be repeating myself in this thread but I did find a lure on the ground one day that "saved the day".

I was at a pond playing around with some bluegill that were prepping and guarding beds right in front of me, I guess. Never seen that before at the time, bass or bluegill, but I recognized the behavior thanks to my years of study at BassResource!

I threw this and that (mainly a Beetle Spin with the spinner part pulled off) trying to get them to bite but they just stole the tiny plasics and spit em out. There was a pile of them forming!

Then I found a tiny hair jig, I guess it was, on the ground. Tiny, yellow with white hairs for a tail. I caught 8 gills and a bass with it! Was cool watching the bluegill immediately return to their spots when released. They seemed to be establishing beds cuz they were chasing each other away from them.

One fish I caught twice. The next time I brought the bait near him he'd swim away, so I stopped at that point and let them do their thing. I found these baits at Walmart later and picked some up.

I have the whole thing on video, as always, but not that exciting to post probably.

I think so...."Berkley Johnson 1/16 oz Beetle Bou Marabou Jig"

Here they are:

I have some of those I got for crappie fishing. Maybe I should try them where I think bass may be lurking!

Some of my better / more unusual recent finds.

I like the shallow shad rap. I never would have bought one, but after trying this one, I might buy one in a color I like.

The two in the top right corner must have been lost by the same person.

I need to get all my finds cleaned up. It's about time for them to go to the market.

Really? I never would have considered that color. Silver Fluorescent Chartreuse? I definitely don't have anything like that in my arsenal, but the water I fish stays fairly clear.  I wouldn't expect something that loud to do well. I was thinking more like the bluegill, shad or crawdad.

I should do that. If I bought some hooks, I could probably fix up a hundred or so semi-decent ones.

I swap almost all my treble hooks right out of the box, so I save those and have a bunch of brand new hooks set aside to put on the baits I find at the end of the year. Usually end up selling them for around $1 apiece, so I make a couple dollars and someone gets a whole bunch of baits for cheap.

BEE1-E553-F4-CB-480-F-B129-423-FBD5576-BIt’s a magical plug, I think that and Tennessee shad are the only colors I’ve ever bought in the shallow runner

Is this a good SMB color or more for LMB? I might try it in a creek I fish some that has both in it.

The top lure has been taunting me for about 2 years. It was hanging high in the middle of a tree, but I finally figured out a way to get it. It’s been there so long the hooks are rusted and there’s mold on the body. In the end it took less than five minutes to get it down.

The jerk bait was a different story altogether. It was twice as high, but on the outside of the tree and on a thin branch. Looked easy, but I ended up spending a couple hours on it. I’ve never come across one that put up such a fight. It looked like it was dangling by a single hook, and it rocked freely when I would shake the limb, but it would not come down. I finally managed to get the hook on it and yanked it down with brute force. I’m thinking about getting it mounted. ?

I've thought about getting this 110 whopper plopper mounted.  I'll never forget it - on May 1st I pulled it out of a tree, and a few hours later a nice medical lady cut it out of my calf.  The sticky sharp hooks kept grabbing onto my pants leg in the kayak because the lure was too big to stay in the cupholder where I pile found lures, and when I stepped out of the boat it was on my jeans again, coming with me, but it was also hooked onto some line from trash that was staying with the boat, and the hook got driven in past the barb.

Now when I have an unruly pile of lures I put them in a plastic container before I exit the boat.  :)

Found a Shadow Rap Shad in Halloween yesterday while beating the banks at my favorite spot. No rust on the hardware, I believe it was lost by a couple of guys I saw fishing there late in the evening the day prior. Zero rust on the hardware, but I'm not a fan of the hooks/rings on Rapala baits so swapped them for Owner rings and size 6 Gamakatsu EWG trebles. Going to try throwing it today and see how it does.

Softens the blow a little since I lost two lipless cranks in the past two days at this spot. Been fishing there for almost six years, just when you think you know where every snag is located....

Had a good day hunting the other day. I found all these within a few minutes, all in the same area thanks to some flooding and high winds. I've found way more lures than fish so far this year.

I thought that RipStop was a ballpoint pen floating in the water  ?

It’s got some bubbling on the finish from being in the water so long. Anyone ever try coating one with clear nail polish to keep the finish from coming off?

I’ve been loving that Little John. I’ve already got a few, but I love that color combo.

A little clear nail polish, or a dab of super glue wouldn’t hurt.

I think that balsa bait might be a rapala OG tiny 4, similar to the little john and OG slim.

Oh yeah, you're right. It says so right on the bottom. I thought I had read "Little John" on the bottom, but I must have had it confused with another one I found a week or so ago.

Too many bubbles for that. Like 50 or so. I need to coat almost the whole thing.

Yeah, nail polish might be better then.
