TheSwearingAngler Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 I hadn’t planned to fish today but I wanted to check the action on yesterday’s find. The Lord giveth and taketh away… I decided to throw it around with the same reckless abandon as the previous owner.. however I have a net, an 8 foot pole and zip ties so I got it back and in doing so found 2 more freebies in that tree…Scumfrog Small Dog and a jig with XZone craw, both like new, both with the same snap swivels. I’ve decided I’m going into the snap swivel business, I’ll make a fortune locally. 3 2 Quote

The challenge of finding them, the challenge of getting them down, the fun of identifying them! Now you'll want a way to lay them out so you can admire them ... like the background pic in my profile ? Quote

That is some collection you’ve got… I’ve found quite a few worth throwing, any not worth throwing(as well as the 100s of bobbers I’ve retrieved) I leave hanging up (out of children and dog’s reach) on the gate to my local park/fishing hole. One more picture.. this is from July/August before I found this forum… as bad as all the snap swivels are this one gets the award for favorite (funniest)find. I collected dozens of bobbers one day (from the bank) using my pole and net setup, these 2 bobbers were just out of reach so I moved along but I just couldn’t leave without taking another shot so I grabbed a paddle from the car to extend my setup and was rewarded with this little gem. I present the dual bobber Amazon swimbait. 4 3 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 21, 2023 Global Moderator Posted January 21, 2023 First few finds of the new year. Pretty pumped about the Duo jerkbait, it's in really nice condition still despite the hooks being rusted off. 10 Quote
TheSwearingAngler Posted January 21, 2023 Posted January 21, 2023 Lost a choppo last week, it was an experiment to see if pickerel would hit topwater. Went out on the canoe to try to find it, no luck on the choppo but I’ll take the free whopper plopper. Anybody know how long it takes for the hooks to rot off? 5 1 Quote

That popper is really cool with the honeycomb pattern. 1 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 23, 2023 Global Moderator Posted January 23, 2023 Wind wouldn't cooperate for the fishing I wanted to do today, so I did some walking. Most pretty mediocre finds until the last one of the day, made the walking worthwhile. 3rd MB I've ever found. 6 Quote

I like the medium runner on the top right. Seems like a nice little lure. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 2, 2023 Global Moderator Posted February 2, 2023 This past weekends finds. It was pretty cold so I wanted to get out and walk to warm up a little. Found a likely looking bank and paddled up, almost parked the kayak on top of the shad rap, then the perch jerkbait was 1 step up the bank when I drug the kayak up. Thought I was really going to find them but didn't find a lot after that. Found a busted Rock Crawler, that was disappointing. The plopper 75 was hung on a log I saw hanging down as I peddled by. 7 Quote
Super User ATA Posted February 2, 2023 Super User Posted February 2, 2023 I was in kern river last three days and night. I came across couple trees that been I water couple years back and I saw so many spinners and spoons and bobbers on trees. Cant see them easy but if you look closely you'll see them on this few pics. 1 Quote

That's when a telescoping lure retriever pays for itself real quick. 2 Quote

Been looking at them actually, any recs? The Frabill 15ft looks nice for not a lot of money. Guy I know swears by these things. Quote

The Frabill is decent, I've had a few of them but they tend to pull apart at the end section if you get a stubborn bait, usually one attached to heavy braid. The T-H Marine Money Pole is twice as expensive but seems to be about unbreakable so far. I'd much rather have either of them than none. They're a lifesaver if you get snagged underwater with a treble hooked bait and retrieve so many lost baits out of trees for me. I've had them pay for themselves in a single day, sometimes a couple times over. 1 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 20, 2023 Global Moderator Posted February 20, 2023 My few finds today. Had a 100% recovery rate on lipless cranks, which never happens, it's usually pretty rare I successfully recover one from a tree. I also got a basically brand new Stunna but it went straight into my kayak box. 7 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted February 26, 2023 Super User Posted February 26, 2023 First finds of the year. I found the humpback in an exposed tree root, and the frog was up in a tree. It always amazes me how high up in the trees these baits are. 5 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 10, 2023 Global Moderator Posted March 10, 2023 They burned off all the tall grass on the dam on the lake by my house so I decided to walk it because it gets a ton of pressure, glad I did. My second find made the whole short trip worth it. It'll need cleaned up and repainted, but a pre-rap wart is a pre-rap wart. I also found a broken bill KVD 300, along with a 6th Sense Movement 80, KVD 1.5, and a Rebel Crawdad that didn't hide from the fire good enough to be saved. 6 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted March 13, 2023 Super User Posted March 13, 2023 Found the crankbait up in the weeds, and the Shadow Rap hanging in a bush. 4 Quote
WaterOtter Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 Finally got on the water yesterday and back in the game! Ice kept me out of part of the lake, but most of the lake was finally clear. I found these. 6 Quote
WaterOtter Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 This was my favorite find. I don't know how the picture will appear once I post it, but I was impressed with myself for spotting the little guy, and then I had to chop it our of the ice with my paddle. The wind was whipping up quite a chop, and while I was working to free this lure a wave came over the side and of course filled up my seat. My jeans and long johns were super soaked the rest of the day, but it was great to be back. 5 Quote

WaterOtter Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 It's the hula popper from the first picture, the mouth was just barely visible in the scrub. Pictures never do it justice showing lures in the wild, but for this one you had to be right on top of it to see it. Quote

And I would like to know how you get the old paint off. I've thrown away a lot of found lures because the paint has come off and I don't know how to clean the rest of the paint off to repaint. Also, what do you use to fill in tooth marks from the critters that chew on it on shore? ? It was a huge revelation a few years ago when I figured out the small pits in lures were coming from pointy critter teeth. Quote
