Back on topic, I found these today .... I took a 1/2 day vac to paddle, so this morning I loaded up the kayak all excited, and boy was I shocked when I rolled up to the lakes and they were frozen solid! ? Saturday they were fine, but cold, and today they were frozen ... five weeks earlier than last year! So, I went to a stretch of river that wasn't frozen, and which I hadn't been to all year, and I cleared out a lot of old fishing line and I pulled down the ones on the left. Then I went to 3 spots that were frozen and I got the ones on the right from shore. LOL......lots of oldschool mixed with new school stuff. I always love to look at you guy's big hauls and pick a favorite. From a fish catching perspective, I'm taking that Chatterbait in threadfin color, sentimental.....those two Rapalas beside each other....fire tiger, and brook trout colored ones. Nice haul, lots of sadness mined ? 1 Quote
Woody B Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 Back in May myself and a co worker were fishing at Lake Norman. I found a new looking Bandit 200 floating. It hadn't been in the lake long. The hooks were still sharp. For kicks I tied it on. I got hung on something kinda springy feeling. I finally was able to pull up a length of line with a charturse spinner bait tied on it. My co worker sharpened the hook on the spinnerbait and tied it on. Within 10 minutes we had both caught decent bass on our found lures. Including this one. 6 1 Quote

Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted November 26, 2022 Super User Posted November 26, 2022 Got my second today.....I'm already seeing it pays to double back when you think you might see something. I was also able to put the puzzle together on this one.....a bank angler lost it on a bomb cast near a fallen tree. Berkley Choppo 105 Couldn't have been in the water for more than a week or two. Basically brand new, you can still smell the sadness on it ? 7 2 Quote

When I pulled, it started giving way, so I pulled more. Pulled in this mess of line and decaying junk, as well as two traps! Chances are they are both mine, as I'm one of the few who fish this pond, but still! Dang I haven't read this thread in a minute, y'all are killing it with the finds. Anyone know what the top lipless is in this picture? Looks interesting. Red-Eyed Shad is always a good find. 2 Quote

I like these lipless baits. 1 1 Quote

Don't know how many times something has caught my eye that wasn't a lure, but after looking around a little I find a bait nearby. It's almost like you just get a feeling that there is a bait there. 2 Quote
WaterOtter Posted December 1, 2022 Posted December 1, 2022 Same thing happens when I go in to shore to pick up a specific piece of trash (sometimes). Once I saw a crappy old crankbait floating in weeds near the shore, and I could see its paint was coming off big time. Ughh. I was going to pass on it, but then again, it was so crappy that it was trash and I really should pick it up. Well, it turned out to be a crankbait with a splatter back paint job in pretty good condition, and underneath it was another crank in good condition. It was so awesome I kept a picture of them ? 8 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 1, 2022 Global Moderator Posted December 1, 2022 Hadn't ever found a Bull Shad before, now I've found 2 in 2 weeks, the exact same one too. Just the cheap, baby bull shads, but still pretty good finds. Both were way up in trees. One was tied on probably 8lb mono, the bottom was tied to what had to be at least 50lb braid. 5 2 Quote

DanielG Posted December 5, 2022 Posted December 5, 2022 I made this bait a couple of years ago. First time I took it out it snagged a fairly large sized bass for the lake I live on. Later in the trip it ended up about 50 ft up in a large pine tree (don't ask). So, I find it again every time I pass that way. Stands out amongst the green pine needles, laughing at me. Later that week I made another just like it. Still have it years later. 5 Quote

DaveT63 Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Does this count? Found it this morning leaning against my mailbox. Top end of an old Ugly Stik with an old spinnerbait tied to it with white braid. No evidence of the other end anywhere to be found. Guessing it was someone who knows how much I love to fish. 4 2 Quote

DaveT63 Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 Not sure whose "or else" scares me more, the bait monkey's or my wife's. She tends to get REALLY upset when I buy myself stuff this close to Christmas. She almost divorced me over a Stella I jumped on for $200 last December. 1 Quote
Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted December 17, 2022 Super User Posted December 17, 2022 Lol, I spent 30 mins trying to retrieve a shiny new Crankbait up in a pine tree attached to heavier braid. Same person that casts 30ft into a pine tree is the same who uses braid for cranks ? The low IQ person cut the braid way back like at his reel on the boat, and now there is a mess of it tangled in a smaller tree that I was trying to free, then I think I could have just ripped it down given the braid and the limb it was on. Frustrating because I've seen a number of Ospreys, and Hawks in this pine. I want to clean up that braid most importantly. Stuff gets in the Swans too. The lures are like a reward for cleaning up a lake or river. 3 1 Quote

If it's a fairly straight line up to the lure, you'll get it. Assuming of course that it doesn't pull your boat apart! 1 Quote
WaterOtter Posted December 18, 2022 Posted December 18, 2022 I stopped going to the lakes in November when they froze over, but today I stopped by and saw they're water again .... and karma gave me a nice skitter pop just for stopping by. ☺️ Left it in easy reach, I didn't even have to stand on my toes or go in the water. 4 Quote

Whoever lost it literally cut the braid at the reel and now there is 10-20yds of line that is tangled below the lure in that said smaller tree. I'm giving it ago tom., perhaps she'll be mine ? 1 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 20, 2022 Global Moderator Posted December 20, 2022 I got a basically new DT8 out of the very top of a tree branch one of the last times I was out that had probably 20 yards of braid attached to it. I have an 18' lure retriever, plus the height of my boat deck, plus my probably 7ish feet with my arm extended above my head, and I still had to stand on top of my Optimax to barely reach that thing. I don't understand how someone misses the whole lake that badly. 3 1 Quote
