We posted theories about that on this thread a couple months ago ... this Mach Patroller 90 was hung up in a bush, the poor thing. All of my finds this week were in trees & bushes and from bank fishermen. Except the plastic, which was stuck on a log underwater, but it was swimming back to shore when it got stuck. I saw no boats at all on either of the lakes I paddled (low 40's, gray, wet and windy, perfect for paddling but certainly challenging for getting lures into water). Quote

I usually find them way up in trees with very light line tied on them. So I'm going with beginning fishermen that don't realize they cast like bullets. I've probably found a dozen this year and I don't think one of them had line heavier than 15lb mono tied to them, but it usually looks more like 6 or 8. 1 Quote

Ouch on the top row square bill that looks like it has good fish rash on it. That's the only bait that looks like it caught anything other than the tree or wherever you got them from ? Lot of them look brand new too, as in not being stuck very long. That's a real score. I don't know why but this thread is good for my soul and makes me laugh every time you guys post these lures. Ironically enough I'm a petulant child when losing a bait and will go to extremes to recover them. 1 Quote
WaterOtter Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 I finally found a mega bass last weekend. That's another item off my bucket list. ? I'm not sure if people in SE Michigan don't use them, or if those who do don't lose them. 4 1 Quote

Do you guys offer any guided finding lure trips? ? 1 Quote

It's pretty rare I find a bait that is battle scarred but I did find a Megabass Popmax KO that was really chewed up Monday. I'll have to post a picture of it. 2 Quote
Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted October 26, 2022 Super User Posted October 26, 2022 Guess who just joined this exclusive club friends? THIS GUY ? I was laughing literally out loud and was thinking of you guys in this thread when I found it. Pure luck, it was submerged about 1ft deep on a brush pile by the bank......just happened to be in the area and looking down for small fish. The hooks that had it snagged I guess rusted away because it was only being down by the line. It's toast and have no idea who makes it. Might clean it up, but it was just a thrill to find one. 2 1 Quote

That's a megabass vision 110 style body, might be a KO though. Hooks kinda look like the stock megabass outbarb hooks. I'm sure you could clean it up and get some use out of it, vision 110's are fish catching machines. 1 Quote

All had what seemed to be an un-removable brown patina that scrubbing with scotch brite or soaking couldn't address. Took a chance with this and it worked like a charm without attacking the finish. Spray it on and let it sit for a few minutes, then wipe off the yuck. 1 1 Quote
Super User ATA Posted October 27, 2022 Super User Posted October 27, 2022 My sons favorite to walk the bank and look everywhere for tackle, Here we have pond that I call it used tackle shop, If I go there and use lipless, Always have so many lures(I can get the line by hooks and pull them out, My best score was lucky craft pointer jerkbait that I have to this day and it is one of my lucky lures in past 7 years 2 Quote

It looks like it's in good condition underneath the gunk and it will clean up well! Great find!! Next step in your journey - Lure Preservation and Restoration. I want to caution you that if you are going to do a lot of rubbing on a lure that's been in the water a while, in many cases it's best to wait 24 hours to let the gunk dry out first, which lets the underlying paint firm up its grip on the lure. Rubbing on a freshly raised lure can pull off large sections of paint. It really depends on what the gunk is and how well it's attached, but I came across this problem in Bama a lot, no so much up north, and a few lures got ruined early on. Enjoy your find! 1 Quote

Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted October 27, 2022 Super User Posted October 27, 2022 Appreciate the info friends, gonna wait like what was suggested, and see what kind of treasure lies beneath. I could see myself just fishing for lures....finding a big swimbait would be like a DD ? 2 Quote

I've always wanted to get into finding arrowheads, maybe that's why I love this thread I usually keep my head down about the lures because I don't want to inspire others in my area and then have fewer lures available to find. There's only so many fish in the seas, and only so many lures in the trees... But it is a huge thrill to find 'em and it keeps me looking! ? Seriously though, the secret to my success is ... I pick up trash in the lakes to build up good karma for the week, and sometimes karma rewards me with a nice lure. Or two, or 10.... Here's what the front of my kayak usually looks like on Saturday mornings as the lake water and muck drip off the garbage ... and here's what my cupholder looks like ... A few weeks ago I posted a picture of the collection that included the gantarel, but what I didn't show was the 5-gallon bucket I found in the lake and filled to the rim with wet, nasty trash. (True story!) Hmm, now that I think about it, maybe that's why my new business Big Otter's Guided Lure and Trash Hunting Tours isn't taking off ! ? Karma is treating me well and I am enjoying life ? 4 1 Quote
Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted October 28, 2022 Super User Posted October 28, 2022 Haha, that's awesome, and bless you for doing other bad human's work. The Gantarel is the best find I've seen posted since joining the thread. I just asked for a couple of them for my Bday. So you guys were dead on the money......it's a MegaBass 1/2 Ito Vision 110 in Megabass Sexy Shad. Out of all the 50+ colors at TW, ironically this is the exact color I would have picked out. My home lake is like a moving body of Threadfins. Whoever lost this bait has a pretty good knowledge of Bass fishing to know to buy a $25 Japanese gucci jerkbait in the exact color that best matches the body of water. Makes me a little sad because I know what it feels like to lose a Japanese bait. Something about JDM baits makes me value them more. Put in about 30-45mins cleaning it up, not all the way there yet as the top still has some algae spots. Used Simple Green concentrate and toothbrush. Missing an eye, needs new hardware, but all things considering, it's a beautiful bait still. edited.....dang this thing is giving me problems uploading the right size photos 5 Quote

Those little spots and that missing eye aren't anything I'd worry about too much. I've replaced my Megabass 110 hooks with Owner ST36 #6 trebles and had very good success. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 8, 2022 Global Moderator Posted November 8, 2022 Nothing real exciting this weekend. All the leaves fell at once so anything floating along the shoreline is hard to spot currently. Pretty much find them in the trees or not at all. 4 Quote
