An amazing find last Monday -- a Creek Chub Plunker in green frog.  It's at least 43 years old (they stopped making them from wood in 1978, according to what I've found online).

At this point, I can fill a tackle box full of found lures.  These are all salvageable by hook sharpening or treble hook replacement.  I've found many times more worms and jigs but they were beyond help.IMG_0301_sm.thumb.jpg.ef1ccd180fbb7bfc10466b272db7a93e.jpg

Is that a glide bait in the upper left corner?

This rig is one of my favorites this year.  I can imagine the person being so excited to fish this lure with amazing realistic minnows (sure to get lots of hits just like real minnows, but they'll last forever!) so the lucky fisherman tied it on below his or her bobber, but excitement quickly turned to frustration as the minnows kept popping up next to the bobber.  So, he/she added a huge river weight to keep it down.  In the end, however, the treble hooks snagged a root and that's how I found it.

My buddy found a brand new pair of forceps today...and he pulled a crank bait out of a brush pile.

My oldest son found a squarebill stuck on a log underwater today. He seems to have a pretty good eye for them as well. Earlier this year while we were bank fishing for catfish, he searched the bank and found 5 baits, including a pre Rapala Chug Bug that has been very successful for me this year.

Well on my fishing trip today no fish but I found 10 bobbers a Walmart brand square bill stuck in the pads a owner hook with a old strike king worm. A couple other hooks, cleared tree branches of hanging lines and hooks. A weed less pre rigged crawler harness. The strangest find was while I was in the water wading in the last spot, felt something tangled around my foot. I knew it was line it had a 2 ounce weight with a tiny little jigging spoon of sorts. Don’t know what they were doing there, but hey I am lucky if I know what I am doing lol.

Pulled this out of the local spillway on Wednesday. No fish that day but left with a free lure. It was a good day.

I found this Popper in a frog color last winter and I finally got around to changing the hooks on it. And then the first time i tried I got a blowup which I thought was a bass, and it was this crappie!

I had a fun day on the lake today.  I found 3 rigs that taught me new ways to fish.

Rig #1: Deep diving whopper plopper (I found it snagged on a picnic table 36" down).  This guy used a split shot + a sliding cone sinker + a steel leader

Rig #2: Bobber jerk bait

I pick up lost bobbers because they get cruddy and become eyesores, and this time I was surprised by what came out of the water with it.

Rig #3: Caveman rig

I was paddling through an algae mass when my paddle got tangled in some line, and I ended up pulling up a rig that was using a good sized rock as a sinker.

Sounds kind of like a trolling rig.

This reminds me of the answer my buddy gives me if I ask him what he caught his fish on "A Carolina rigged bubble gum colored buzzbait down by the dam".

I added new treble hooks to these found lures - just during the last two months.  Don't think I'll need to buy lipless crankbaits again for quite a while...

What is it with people and lipless crank baits?

I like using them in open water and adjacent riprap.  My nearby lake has a lot of sunken weeds and moss so that lipless crank baits are a bad idea.  Go figure...

I don't think I've ever caught a fish on a lipless.  I've caught fish on a blade bait though.

I've caught plenty on a lipless but I can count on one finger how many ive caught with a jig. Not counting swim jigs that is. Its really interesting hearing what people have good success with and how much it differs from person to person.
