Super User fishwizzard Posted December 30, 2016 Super User Posted December 30, 2016 I cannot conceive of such a pressured place, or were you like the first guy to hit the place after a drawdown? 1 Quote
IndianaFinesse Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 Had a good lure finding day yesterday, although no where near as many as bluebasser found. Found a roughly four square foot section of heavy fabric on a heavily fished shoreline, it would normally be beneath the water before winter draw down. I found a kvd 1.5 square bill, a kvd 1.0, a 1/2 ounce red eye shad, a big o crankbait, a 1/2 ounce rattle trap, a 3/4 ounce rattletrap, a 1/4 ounce ripnrap, and a lucky craft pointer 65. Plus a bunch of hooks and sinkers, all on the same small piece of fabric. 1 Quote

Heavy pressure, I walk that same 1/2 mile stretch every year at least once. Quote
Blackhawk83 Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 Found two Bandit series 200 crank baits one beetle spin and 1/2 dozen or so white plastic lizards while walking a rocky jetty last weekend. Quote
jr231 Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 I've never heard of someone finding that many in one day.. that's ridiculous.. and what a bunch of lazy fisherman. I'm too cheap to cut it and take the loss. The only time I leave it is if it's down in the depths and I don't have a choice. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 31, 2016 Global Moderator Posted December 31, 2016 They don't lose them where I walked. The lake runs north and south, most fishing occurs during the warmer months when the wind typically blows from the south, so I walk the banks to the north of popular fishing areas. This lake is one of the most popular in the state, thousands of people fish it every summer from boats as well as from shore. The shoreline fishermen actually are probably the ones that lose a lot of them and just have no way to retrieve them. I do find some from obviously lazy fishermen though. The bladed jig was hanging in a tree by the boat ramp parking lot and I literally walked over and pulled it out of the tree by hand. Whoever lost it could have gotten it back extremely easy but for whatever reason chose not to. 2 Quote

mixel Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 Hiking around Iceland in August, I came upon a huge river. Wondering if people fished there, I walked along the bank and found a cool fly lure near some rocks. Haven't found any bass lures though. That collection above is I hope to do some walking this summer when water levels drop. It's been a great winter so far in California and the lake levels are steadily rising. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 3, 2017 Global Moderator Posted January 3, 2017 Walked for a few hours again today after fishing. Not the best location but still did pretty decent. 4 Quote
BannedForSpamming-1234555 Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 I'm one of those who would loose spoons chucking for salmon on lake ontario piers. I always wondered how many spoons are out there sitting on the bottom Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted January 5, 2017 Super User Posted January 5, 2017 Most probably, a LOT. The bottom of the Salmon River in Pulaski NY was (probably still is) festooned with an INCREDIBLE amount of line, lead (of all sizes), hooks, and lures. It was truly shocking to see. Litter like that, above the water, would result in immediate action. Quote
blckshirt98 Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 Holy cow bluebasser, I can't believe you find all of those walking the shoreline. You must be the only person fishing the shoreline right now where you're going - any place I go with boating/shore access is usually picked clean, I might find 1-2 lures tops. Quote

It's also pretty good to find your own lost lures that you forgot about. This one place I fish has woven filter fabric exposed at the base of a dam, and that fabric is deadly on lures. I thought I had learned my lesson to avoid it after losing some lures there, but lost two of my favorites back-to-back last weekend. I went back to retrieve the two snagged red eye shads. The water is heavily stained. When I reached in and fumbled around to grab my chartreuse RES with the lure retriever, I wound up winding the fabric around the catcher as if I was twirling spaghetti around a fork. Then I slowly yanked out an armload of fabric - I got back both red eye shads and a bonus: one of my long-forgotten red eye shads plus a surprise - a bubblegum 5" dinger that had expanded to about 5 x its normal volume. Next time I think I will go back and "prune" some more fabric. I cleaned up the old red eye using the sonicare, ready for new hooks and to get back in service. 3 Quote
TheRodFather Posted January 7, 2017 Author Posted January 7, 2017 I wonder what type of metal the eyes on the red eye shad are made of, that the treble hooks would rot off but the eyes are still ok. Or did yo already have them off for the picture....? 1 Quote

Or did yo already have them off for the picture....? @TheRodFather I think this is interesting too. I'm pretty sure the eyes are a plastic resin of some type. The eyes on the lure submerged for several months are now cloudy, I believe due to abrasion since it is right near a discharge outlet that can be very turbulent. There was already some faint rust around the hook hangers and split rings on the lures that were down for just a few days. There was considerable rust on the hooks of the lure that was stuck for months. I had cut the hooks off to make getting them out of the fabric easier, and because they were shot anyway. Only surface rust on the hook hangers, easily removed. I think the hook and split ring rust was what accumulated on the old lure. Yes, I use those cheap Eagle Claw snaps! Almost no rust on them. Super User soflabasser Posted January 11, 2017 Super User Posted January 11, 2017 I often fish public parks and many of the bass fisherman that fish these places leave soft plastics scattered all around the lakes. Many of these soft plastics are in good condition, so I use them and catch many bass on their lures. Also find hard plastic lures often in trees and have acquired a decent collection of topwaters, crankbaits, jerkbaits, etc. Quote
OCdockskipper Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 About 9 months ago, I found a Jackal Gantrel Jr. Swimbait (Spawn Gill color) floating in our lake. I was able to clean it up and have used it a few times, smiling at my $31 find every time I tie it on. Today, I found a second Gantrel Jr, this time in Ghost Gill color and in perfect shape hanging off the corner of a dock. This one still has the factory feathered hooks, so I guess it is even sightly more valuable than the first one. Since most likely both of these lures were used by someone sneaking on to the lake illegally (possibly at night) and not willing to expose themselves in order to retrieve their hung up lures, I want to publicly thank whoever this individual is who is building my Swimbait collection. I would like to request the next one they leave behind be in Scale bass, I think that would be a nice addition. 8 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 19, 2017 Global Moderator Posted March 19, 2017 I've almost filled the first 3700 box of the year with found baits already. Found a Rogers Big Jim last time out and a brand new Sammy in American Shad color. 3 Quote
UPSmallie Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 That's pretty awesome. If you find that many lures on the banks, just imagine how many are down there to be picked up snorkeling. Most are probably hung up deep, but I'm sure there'd be a few snagged up shallow. Quote
boostr Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 @Bluebasser86, Do you even buy crankbaits any more? 2 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 28, 2017 Global Moderator Posted March 28, 2017 Only found one bait at Table Rock this weekend but it was a clown colored Lucky Craft Staysee. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted March 28, 2017 Super User Posted March 28, 2017 Found all of these on Saturday at a local lake: Z Man chatterbait with trailer on it (hanging on the garbage can at the ramp, still in fishable condition) Bill Lewis Rat-L-Trap 1/4oz. in Chrome/Blue (friend snagged some line while fishing a crankbait and brought it up, hooks were starting to rust but overall in great shape) 1/4oz. lead bullet sinker (I snagged a big clump of line while fishing a crankbait, this was attached to said line) Quote
