There are a whole bunch of lure blanks that are based off the Pointer.  The blanks are .60-$2.  You could build one for under $3 each and paint with nail polish.

Ahh....Lots of good coming from this now!

I have plenty of time to look at all these options and you can bet I will.  Pick up 3 Yo Zuri's today.  Have never fished these but they look good.  Anyway....thank you all for your help.

A-Jay, share your wire rigging method if you would please.   Even if I don't use it again there might be somebody else watching this that might.  The brand I have is different (and about 20 yrs old now) but same stuff.

Sure.  Not much to it.

The AFW product is knottable.  So it's easily added to the end of whatever one is using as a mainline and then secured to either a small clip for easy bait changes or directly to the bait.

When I'm in "Tooth-Ville" I use this stuff for most every presentation; including but not limited to, crankbaits, lipless baits, spinner baits, chatterbaits, swimbaits, jigs, Texas rigged plastics, and even topwater frogs.   I use a uni-to uni knot for connections to mainlines, including braid, and a single uni knot for securing the bait.

There has been mention here and in other threads that bass may be "shy" of this product.  I have not found this to be the case and use it with the utmost confidence.  And to convince myself, when I first purchased the product I used for a drop shot rig.  LMB & SMB ate the presentation without hesitation.  After that I felt very comfortable in it's use with moving baits.  Still do.

A-Jay

Storm Twitch stick in the 10 size and I have over 2 dozen now and I use it as an alternative to the Pointer 100. I too have lost many a Pointer 100 to toothy critters, aka Muskies, and when the twitch stick came out I gave it a shot and found it to be the best 5 buck jerkbait I ever used. First off the dimensions and bulk are incredible close to the pointer 100, it is 5/8oz and it has a nice erratic action, it is similar to a pointer, even the wobble on the pause. The best thing about it is the hooks, they use a VMC but unlike most others they use a heavier wire hook, the finishes are good too, not as nice as the Pointers but nice enough and it doesn't hurt as bad to lose one. I've done well with them, I like the pearl shad when there is some color to the water and the ghost wakasagi  and ghost pro blue are excellent in gin clear water.

Mine will be here in tomorrow's mail.  This was good, helpful info, just what I was hoping to hear about these baits!  I was not able to find any locally to look at so tomorrow will be the first time I hold one.

Get some rapala x-raps, or shadow rap shads, they are cheaper and are great baits

You might also check out some of the h2o express jerkbaits at Academy. They're pretty inexpensive. Not sure if they will dive as deep as the LC pointer tho. I've been pleasantly surprised by most of the hard baits at Academy. They have really sharp vmc hooks & usually only costs a few bucks so you don't get bent outta shape when you lose one. They seem to work well too, at least for me.

Storm Twitch Sticks might be the best low priced option.  They are almost just like a Pointer 100 and I use both.  Threadfin Shad almost perfectly matches Alewives around here, Rainbow Smelt and Pearl look good too.  And they are right around $6.

Where can I get a look at some of these?  I tried Barlows but the one they have looks nothing like a Pointer 100

I discovered these when reading up on striper fishing where they seem to be popular.   I bought a couple and while they have great action, they don't seem to suspend at all, floating up pretty quickly.  On the bright side, the aggressively ribbed bottom holds the suspend-dots very well and one or two of them seems to do the trick.

Got 3 in the mail today.   Look fantastic so I'm likely to get a few more!  Wish I had found out about these sooner.

Check the tackle building forums too, but this is a good start.

They all have their place and I have them all!   I do love the X-Rap dearly, have caught many bass on those!
