TxHawgs Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 Just seen these yesterday, man they are a sharp lookin rod. And anything comin out of that camp isn't gonna be junk. Handle looks like an NRX except for the reel seat. They are pretty heavy rods and 7'3"+ w a moderate action. So I'm wondering if there suppose to be jig rods, don't think there meant to be CBR? There on TW for 359 & 287 after discount. Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted November 27, 2016 Super User Posted November 27, 2016 Interesting - hadn't heard about this series and they are not on the Edge web site (but that doesn't surprise me...). Moderate action with those weight ratings - cranking rods. I have an Edge Black Widow 705-1 - it's a very nice rod. So yes, some good rods can come out of Edge. However, I'd wait to get some buyer feedback on this new series before considering a purchase. Regarding my 705-1, and commentary about Edge in general, here's one of my earlier posts: Quote
j bab Posted November 28, 2016 Posted November 28, 2016 No chance that Cliff Pace designed a series of cranking rods. These are most likely jig rods with that "parabolic" action you hear about. The rod I use for my Hudds is considered a moderate taper You kinda said it yourself though, an Edge rod designed by Cliff Pace is gonna be a good rod, I think at 20% off you're gonna be happy with it. I'm saving for a Black Widow myself Quote
TxHawgs Posted November 28, 2016 Author Posted November 28, 2016 Thanks @Goose52 for the review. I'm on that forum also and love it. If it wasn't for you I wouldn't have too many guys to talk to here lol. @j bab I'm gonna have to agree w ya on that one. I don't follow the pro stuff too much but good point of them being jig rods if Cliff Pace is known for that. St. Croix also makes pitchin/jig rods w a moderate action as they feel it's harder for the fish to throw the jig. Before i aquired my new rods I was fishing jigs on a MH-MF GLX CBR and it worked great. Wish I could order one but spent too much this wknd. So gonna have to wait on that. And I've been wanting to order a Custom Kistler Z Bone.@Goose52 how do you like the handle on the Black Widow? I have them on my list but wish they would of put a split grip on it like the First Strike series. But if you think the carbon fiber handles make a big difference in adding to the sensitivity they I will have to try one. The Z Bone is built on the same blank as the Black Widow, the NFC HM but you probably knew that lol. Thanks guys. Quote

I've heard of folks using mod-fast rods (with braid) for jigs...hadn't heard of anyone using moderate... Regarding the Black Widow handle, I actually have mine wrapped with WinnGrip - the handle felt a bit slick to me and I was afraid that I'd cast the rod into the lake... Quote
