Redsyn Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 Hey guys, I'm a newbi at bass fishing and I was wondering what you guys think about this Pontoon boat. I live it Los Angeles and a college student so my funds are limited. Not to mention I dont have a truck or anywhere to park a boat in the garage or yard. http://www.seaeagle.com/Catamaran/375fc.asp Does anyone have any experience w/ these? Is it a good deal? Is the trolling motor any good or just better off buying something else and add on to the boat? What are your thoughts in general about this particular product? Thanks guys and any advise or comment is welcome. Quote

Skwerl Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 Yup, you're limited to the lure on your line or possibly a spare hooked on your hat. Certainly no place to secure a tackle box. I'd be wary of high quality crankbaits with extra sharp treble hooks as well. Inflatables and treble hooks don't get along so well. Quote
Redsyn Posted April 30, 2006 Author Posted April 30, 2006 Under the seat below the seat there is a full fabric floor underneath frame which is attached between the two floating tubes to hold anything from a tackel bag and anything you might drop like lures, hooks, weights etc... Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted April 30, 2006 Super User Posted April 30, 2006 For that much money you could buy a small jon boat and a very good trolling motor. The problem I see is it doesn't look stable enough to use in the wind. Than limits the days you can fish. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted April 30, 2006 Super User Posted April 30, 2006 $1500 with the trolling motor (battery and electric inflation pump not included)?!!!! I'm not certain that boat will do for you what you want it to. After watching that video, the fabric tray for storage underneath might be peachy for a tiny little fly box and a trout net but little else. You'll note the battery for the trolling motor is sitting on top of the back deck on that thing. I'm sure you also noticed that the guys fishing out of that were fly fishing. I never saw any shots of a couple guys with multiple rods and tackle boxes. For that kind of money I'd suggest one of those 2 man plastic bass boats you can get for around $500, add the TM and battery for $200 more. Get rid of your car and get a mini-pickup. One of those 2 mans would fit perfectly in the bed. Those things can be stored pretty easily. Sorry, that looks like a good deal for fly fishing but NOT bass fishing. Quote

I fulheartedly agree that for the money, you could get a small jon w/ motor (new) or a suprememly decked out sweetie of a jon (used) if you are willing to hunt a little. B. I am very friendly with a couple on our lake that owns one of these. They are extremely stable and not as top heavy as they appear. Theirs also has a trolling motor on it. C.He does regret the purchase on the pure basis of NO ROOM! He is limited to 1 rod and a small tackle bag that he wears around his waist. Pain in the butt. d. Landing a big fish is risky. Quote
Rattlinrogue Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 For $1500.00,You could get a used jon boat and trailer for $500-$700(much less for a used jon boat only, but get a trailer). You'd be surprised what you can do with that boat with the extra $700-$1000 you'd save.I'd look for that cheap, used J-boat and trailer and deck that thing out:FC trolling motor, seats, floors with carpet, portable DF,maybe a good used outboard motor.Do you guys have many cottonmouths where you fish?I'd honestly be scared to death to fish in one of those where I fish.We have gators, cottonmouths, alligator gar,and big snapping turtles. huskertko Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 I just bought a smaller version, a single person one and so far I love it. This is the one I bought,http://cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?id=0035752318813a&navCount=1&podId=0035752&parentId=cat360011&navAction=jump&cmCat=MainCatcat20431&catalogCode=UF&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat360011&hasJS=true. As far as gear storage, mine has a small platform on the back that i can put a small tacklebox or cooler or both. It also has two fairly decent sized pockets on the side for smaller items. I am getting ready to get a depth finder for it and rod holders so i can better store the extra rods. Here is a couple of links to clubs that exclusively use the kickboats, and they have them pretty decked out, www.scbbbc.com or www.bass-n-tubes.com. These boats may not be the best at covering a lot of water but the upside is you will work over a section of water much more thoroughly since you can't just run to another section. Another upside in my opinion is the fact that you can't take a lot of tackle, it will force you to become better with what you have. It will again force you to really give a lure a chance before changing it out. Quote
