Dobyns drop shot rod

Hey all im looking to get my first drop shot rod and came upon the Dobyns 7' Medium Light (FR 702SF).  Does anyone have any opinion on this rod? Or is there something out there better for the same price range? I am going to pair it up with a 2500 Daiwa BG reel.

I have become very happy with the Dobyns rods. That exact rod is very well balanced and just feels good in your hand. I think the Fury rods fish more like a $200 rod.

That rod is perfect for fishing unweighted Sencos, ned Rigs, and lots of other light weight plastics like finesse worms.  If you have not tried Z Mann's TRD Ned rigs go get you a few packs of 1/10 ounce "ShroomZ" jig heads and a few packs of TRD (which stands for The Real Deal) worm bodies. They look like you cut Senco worms into pieces about 2 1/2 to 3 inch long ones. I tried that and it did not work so good. I was on vacation in Kentucky and could not get any to stock up with.  My wife and I caught big post spawn female smallies for two days on just a couple of bodies. Z Man uses Eastec and it holds up great. We fished over big grass flats on main lake just days after the big females cam off their nests and returned to main lake areas to recuperate. We threw the book at them but they only ate these for three days, then a jig worked.  Most were caught in 8 to 20 feet of water and most were over 6 pounders. I was in heaven all week.  Thank god my guide and friend insited on fishiong them..

How does one fish the ned rig? Do I just cast it out let it hit bottom and jig it up let it fall again and repeat?

Daiwa Tatula rod through Sportman's Outfitters either the 6'11" ML XF or the 7'1" ML XF for $109 is a great deal.

The 702 for DSing will be the number 1 choice for most bass fisherman.  A couple years back I was doing this research and the 702 was the most popular advice.  Once I bought the rod (Champion), it was a little heavier than what I wanted in a DS rod.  I use the 702 for heavier tubes and when I am DSing 3/8 oz and above.  I bought a 701 which I love for lighter DS rigs and the Ned Rig.  But I do like my rods a little lighter than the average bass fisherman.  

I love these rods so much that I bought a Champion Extreme 741 and 742 yesterday through Tackle Warehouse's Black Friday sale.  Hope it helps.
