Super User Darren. Posted November 25, 2016 Super User Posted November 25, 2016 Here in VA, a kayaker died this weekend, no PFD. Needless tragedy. http://www.dailypress.com/news/traffic/dp-suspicious-object-reported-at-monitor-merrimac-bridge-tunnel-20161123-story.html @A-Jay, @Sam, others here beside myself constantly urge the wearing of PFDs all the time. There's a reason, and here is another example why. Whatever the cause of his death, barring a catastrophic stroke or heart-attack, he stood a greater chance of survival if he had a PFD on. 2 Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted November 25, 2016 Super User Posted November 25, 2016 Sad to hear about these type of incidents.... I wear a PFD 100% of the time that I'm on the water. BUT, hardly anyone else on my water does....especially recreational kayakers, usually in SINKS, that never wear them (and probably don't know what "PFD" even means).... 1 Quote

It is sad to hear so many people say "law says I only need one in the boat". While technically true, it is still risky, as proven by stories like these. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted November 25, 2016 Super User Posted November 25, 2016 Very Sad. "Paddle Board" users not wearing Life Jackets may be the next group of humans who could reach their demise while "having a good time". Stay Safe A-Jay 1 Quote
