Dobyns fury rods 734 or 735?

I want to buy a rod for punching, frogging, and heavy jigs. I decided dobyns fury line would be a great choice, however I don't know if I should get the 734 or 735. Which one should I get for punching, frogging, and heavy jigs 734 or 735?

I have a 734C for sale that I just listed on here.  It's a great rod that I hate to sell but have to.  If you are interested, please let me know.  It does so many things well with so many baits.  Thought I would chime in.  Thanks!

Yeah that's what a lot of people are saying. You don't think it will be too heavy because are mag heavy's 2 powers higier than heavy?

Mag Heavy is just 2 words printed on a rod.  I would call a Dobyns MAG HEAVY less powerful than say a HEAVY St. Croix and not a very noticeable amount more powerful than a Lamiglas Excel 735, which has MEDIUM HEAVY as it's labeled power (with the same weight range as the FURY.) 

 

I have a Fury 735 and it will do what you are asking.

I have a Fury 735 and it will do what you are asking.

Yeah I heard dobyns powers are usually lighter than there listed. Thanks that helped

I'd say 735, but if you can find a better deal with a 734, get a 734. Make sure to check out my answer to your other post.

Given those were the only two choices of that particular Dobyns line, the 735 would serve you better than 734 for those techniques. If they had a Fury 736 rod, I would recommend that one.

You don't want either of those to use for the 3 things you mentioned. 

The 734 is a great all around rod. Decent in moderate cover but 3/4 total weight is it's limit. 

735 is an awesome frog rod. I've been using a savvy 735 for years for just frogs. Lots of people like the champ 735 for up to 3/4oz jigs (1oz ish total weight) Awful punch rod for heavy weights. You can punch 3/4oz and be fine but getting to 1oz + too much for the rod. 

Get the Fury 765. It will handle up to 1 1/2 oz weights punching, easily flip/pitch big jigs, and toss frogs.

Yeah I'm also thinking the 735 because there both the same price and the 735 and handle heavier weights needed for punching

I went on to the the dobyns website and it says the 735 can handle 1/4- 1 1/2

Feel free to buy a rod based on a recommended lure spec from the manufacturer. However, if you want an opinion from somebody who has actually used the 734/735/765 for years and almost every other Dobyns rod, there is less than a 0% chance the 735 even handles 1 1/2oz. You're pushing the rod to its limits even trying to punch /w a 1oz weight with it.
