shimano sahara fe 4000 spinning reel

How is the shimano sahara 4000 because there is a pretty good deal at academy for this reel?

It's oversized to balance well on most bass rods.  2500-3000 is optimal.  4000 is better suited to heavy freshwater or light saltwater.  I will say that at 12.5 oz. it's not any heavier than the Mitchell 300 I grew up on. Spool diameter and capacity just makes  it overkill. What's the sale price?  It's easy these days to find good spinning reels at reasonable prices.

It is 40$ sale price and the 3000 and 2000 are the same price. So the Sahara is a good reel but the 4000 is too big? 

What spinning would you recommend?

Simple.  Get the 2500 or 3000 Sahara if it's only 40.00  That's a good deal.  I would opt for the 3000 because I believe it has a more substantial T handle.

i fish a few Saharas. Love them but nothing in that series. 2000/2500/3000 is about the slot i spin fish.

I have my wife setup with 3 different Saharas. 2500 for panfish, 3000 for bass and 4000 for inshore fishing. She has pulled in some nice redfish and several small sharks with the 4000, definitely to big if your just bass fishing.

I'm a Sahara fan and love my 2500's for bass.  I have one 4000 but after using it once I've not used it again.  lol.  I think it would better suited for muskie or those big giant cat fish.  You can't go wrong with a Sahara though.  They are my number one fishing reel, period.

It's a good reel for the money and it can be used for more than just bass fishing,which is a big plus if your into targeting other species of fish.I mostly use size 4000 spinning reels for bass fishing and use a wide variety of lures with no problems.

3000 picks up more line so id you're fishing a wacky rig you can catch up to those fish that come out from under the dock at 10,000mph and end up under your boat before you even know you're bit.

2500 and 3000 have same IPT.  3000 has a deeper spool for more capacity.  That said the 3000 has a better handle.

KVD uses a larger 4000 series but ONLY with FC line as the larger spool cuts down on line twist . Of course , KVD is using a top dollar super light weight 4000 series so he can make multiple casts without getting tired . For mono . braid with backing and even FC with mono backing a 3000 series would be ideal for bass . I have a Sahara 2500 series but I also have #10 lb. braid with mono backing on that reel for shaky head and weightless worm applications .
