Super User N Florida Mike Posted November 20, 2016 Super User Posted November 20, 2016 I like watching SEC football ( geaux Gators !).What do y'all think about the targeting penalty? I think they call it too often. Most of the time they are just trying to make the tackle, not hurt anybody.I think its kind of a fad.I mean after all,it is football. I understand the effort to reduce injuries .But I think the players are often penalized when they were just trying to make a clean hit . 4 Quote
jr231 Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 Yea man I agree. If we aren't careful it's going to turn into "Sunday night two hand touch" 3 Quote
riverbasser Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 First of all Go Gators!! I don't think its a bad idea but agree it may be called to often. Seems the reaction of most depends on if its there team its called against. But I suppose that's normal 2 Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted November 20, 2016 Super User Posted November 20, 2016 Called to often, defense gets the penalty when they are just going in and the ball carrier drops their head into tackle. 3 Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted November 20, 2016 Super User Posted November 20, 2016 I agree called too often. The worst part is a guy make a vicious hit with no intent to hurt the other player & gets kicked out of the game. 1 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted November 20, 2016 Author Super User Posted November 20, 2016 I mean if it's blatant it should be called. but it usually isn't anything more than someone trying to make a tackle and possibly force a turnover. 1 Quote
jr231 Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 Yea players like Odell Beckham (and many others) who have been recorded making obvious cheap shots after the play are bad for the game ! Those players should not be allowed to continue in the league . I don't think penalties are harsh enough for those types of actions. But the hard hits that happen because 2 players crossed paths going all out should not be penalized. Players should be protected from intentional dirty hits but nobody can argue that some of the calls are more than questionable. 1 Quote
mrmacwvu1 Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 I think that there needs to be bifurcation. They need to determine intent to see what the penalty is going to be. Throwing a player out of the game for making a good tackle when the ball carrier is the one that ducks into it is absurd. 1 Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted November 22, 2016 Super User Posted November 22, 2016 Football is a very fun sport to play ,but it is also very dangerous. The players these days are bigger, faster, and stronger on average compared to a couple decades ago.A player can easily get a concussion by getting hit too hard, and too many concussions may cause long term consequences to a players health(CTE). 1 Quote
