I want to permanantly mount my transducer to my 14' aluminum boat. Drilling holes below the water line makes me a little nervous. What is the best sealer to use around the holes? should I use rubber washers or something? Any help would be appreciated, did I mention I don't like to bail?

Thanks

Go to the tile department at Home Depot and buy a big fat grout sponge and throw it in the back of the bote. Much easier and more effective for mopping up small amounts of water. I had an old aluminum boat that took on about 3-4 ounces of water per hour and the sponge was perfect for keeping the floor dry.

I have been worried about this same thing myself for a while. I never wanted to drill a hole in my aluminum boat. What I did was use 3M 5200 to hold the transducer on the transom. No holes and it holds pretty good, no problems yet.

I mix up some JB Weld, coat a metal screw with it, put some in the old hole, then screw it down tight. None have ever leaked. On the new mount don't use the epoxy. You can't remove the screws. Use thick rubber seals under the mounting bracket next to the hull.
