Gonna flip till I can't flip no mo!

Heading out for the last time of the year this weekend before the snow and ice arrive. 

Water is going to be 45 degrees. Any tips for baits?

I think I'm gonna pitch pitch pitch, flip flip flip a jig all day.

Honestly tho, should I incorporate a jerkbait or spinnerbait? Or anything else?

i figure the water is gonna be fridgid and the bass are gonna want a bait they don't have to chase and something that will sit right in their face, so why not end the season with flippin' all day!!

am I right?!

I've no idea where you're at but up here in the north woods of Michigan, it's been all about Jerkbaits & blade baits for the last month.

Montréal Canada to be exact! So, much higher north! Lol...

what was the water temp? If it's similar I will definitely give those baits a toss then!

Can't give you exact dates & temps but between below 50 & above 40 covers it.  I'm mostly on Smallies btw -

Smallies are prominent up here also, but looks like we will be heading for the Large mouth bite! 

Good to hear you didn't catch those smallies only off of a drop shot! Moving baits working, and working well by those pics!

You know even though I am not exactly a huge D/S fan - I did try it and couldn't get bit - which is a little weird.

Either way - Jerkbaits & Blade Baits fished low & slow has been the deal.

I'd still be trying a jerkbait for largemouth. Smallies are usually more active in cold water than largemouth are and are a bit more willing to chase. Largemouth still eat, but aren't willing to chase as much so a jerkbait with longer pauses is usually the ticket.

Pounding the shoreline isn't going to be very productive, look out over your shoulder that's where the bass should be.

Fishing for bass in Canada will put you on pike as well.

And as for musky, you gotta be willing to spend thousands of dollars in gear- not to mention 8 hr trolling days to maybe Land 1. Not my kind of deal.

I would say; Forget the large mouth and target the smallies for the same reason WIGuide mentioned. Low and slow if you do go after the LM. I'm assuming you'll be targeting a natural lake, so look for faster tapering drop offs. The smallies should be suspending just off the drop and the LM most likely will be close to the base along the drop.

If you're gonna flip and flip till your arm falls off, and considering what you said about your conditions, I'd start small. Use a BB Cricket as Primetime suggested, a jr size brush hog, or a small beaver type bait of your choice. 

Dont over work it. Use small movements. Dragging with intermittent times of small, in place hops. Deadstick it a while also until you find a pattern.

In cold water as you describe, and IF they are holding to shore or buried up, they won't want to move much. You have to drop it in front of them or on top of thier head to get bit.

I love flipping and pitching, but it's not nearly as effective this time of year for me. The water cools down, the fish back off the banks, and they also focus much more on baitfish like shad than they do craws. All this adds up to a better bite on moving baits or at the very least casting jigs or plastics.
