reels Shimanos

Hi guys christmas is just around the corner and i have two reels in mind but i havent decided what one i want yet.  The tow reels i am talking about are the Shimano 200I and the Shimano curado 70.  If you guys could leave a resopnse that would be awesome, Thanks.

What are you wanting to do with this reel? To me the 200I, with it's larger spool capacity is a reel that can be used for many things. For the way I fish the 70, with it's much smaller capacity especially when spooled with 15lb-20lb, would pretty much be limited to pitching or shorter cast presentations.  Both are good reels though.

by the 200 i do you mean the citica 200i? if so i have it i like the reel itself but only after i changed what i was using it for. i started off throwing bladed jigs with 15 lb fluro i could not get more than 30 ft out of a cast regardless of if there were no brakes on the dail was set to 1 i could not get more than 30 ft so i tinkered a bit and changed what i throw with it. i now have it spooled with braid as my backing and 10 lb fluro as my main line and now i love it. casts are easily hitting 50+ft with crankbaits. 

if you are looking at the curado series in the 200 and the 70 i would say it depends on what you're doing, the 200 is a larger spool so i would say anything long casting is good to throw like crankbaits, spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, ect. basically anything you want to chuck far. for the 70 i would think it's more limited to pitching and flipping maybe some frogs or something you want to target cast

I don't have either reel, but I do have a Chronarch 50e
that is more than capable of doing everything a larger
reel can do.

A number of us here that use the 50 size use it for all
manner of casting presentations.

FWIW. If it were me, I'd pick the 70, but I am also 
particular to smaller reels. Just more comfortable to me.

100% agree. The new 70 sized reels are capable of about anything you need with the exception of needing alot of heavy line for big baits.

If you're spooling with braid, the 70, if you're spooling with flouro, or mono in less than 15, the 70. If you are using the reel for larger diameter lines you may run into issues with not having enough line and have to respool frequently

why dont you go to tackle store near you and try to hold both of them, pick whatever feel more comfortable for you. The 70 will do everything 200 can but a bit better with very light lure, on the other hand 200 would give you the benefit of holding more line.

I myself like 70 better due to smaller size, but believe me the line capacity is also very important if you need bigger line.

I own the curado 70 and it truly is amazing, I mainly use it for unweighted plastics. It doesn't have the largest line capacity but believe it's enough. And that's all you need, it completely bombs cast to new lengths. Not to mention with newer features than the 200 and much less clunky

What rod will you be mounting it on and what baits will you be throwing?

I have the JDM 71 Curado (Scorpion) and it is a great little reel. If line capacity is not an issue id choose it over the 200 for its comfortable size alone. Note that line capacity is usually measured for nylon (mono) so you can fit quite a bit more flouro or braid.

The CU 70i is one of the best offerings to come out of Shimano in awhile. That is one bad Lil unit. Highly recommended .

The 70 is a sweet little reel. I fish mine with 15lb fluoro and have no issues with line capacity, and I've had fish push it way beyond anything a bass will ever be able to do.

If they would have made them the original B platform green I'll bet they couldn't make enough of them.

I've had both, and I recommend the 70 series over the 200, just because it's a nice small package and will throw lightweight lures very well.

Most likely, they'd sell like crazy at first, then all we'd hear is how they aren't as good as the originals.

It's almost laughable the way guys talk about the old stuff.  Yes. they were great reels but don't compare to today's equipment.  I have a JDM Scorpion 200  (Curado I)  and it's head & shoulders above anything else at that price point from Shimano (including E platform) that I've owned. I'm speaking objectively (smoothness, ergos) .
