Good Luck - I'm eyeballing Sunday as the forecast is a wicked Tease. My problem won't be hard water but lake access. Snow & slush as well as muck & mire . . . and I'm not exactly sure what that last part even means - but my Dad used to say it a lot. A-Jay 2 Quote
CTBassin860 Posted December 4, 2016 Posted December 4, 2016 Almost time to renew the licence and start ice fishing! I may try to hit the pond tomorrow just to see what happens. Quote

Super User Scott F Posted December 4, 2016 Super User Posted December 4, 2016 Just saw a fishing show today filmed in Northern Wisconsin just this past week. They were hammering the largemouth on Red Eye Shads, plastics and spinnerbaits in 40 degree water in 10 feet of water on the deep edge of weeds just before the depth went to 20 feet. If you are interested, here is a link to this weeks show. "John Gillespie's Waters and Woods" Warning, the host John Gillespie gets a little "enthusiastic". He films a new show every week, 52 weeks a year, most of them in Wisconsin, but always some where in the Midwest. http://www.gillespiefishing.com/this-weeks-show/ 1 Quote
CybrSlydr Posted December 4, 2016 Posted December 4, 2016 I think we are done until next year. High 30s, cold water... Granted I did get a tiny one on a Ned rig today... 1 Quote

Super User ww2farmer Posted December 20, 2016 Super User Posted December 20, 2016 It was over for me around Veterans day..................not because the weather sucked, actually it was quite the opposite, and most years if we had the weather we had through late Nov. - early Dec. I would still be fishing. I just decided to pack it in a little earlier this year. Water levels are/were at an all-time low on my lake thanks to the super dry summer, and I was tired of fighting the launch ramp to get on and off trailer. Plus a lot of the stuff I like to fish this time of year WAS ON DRY LAND due to the drought. No sense in reinventing the wheel here, but I did leave them biting, at least the green ones. I know I missed some of the best smallmouth fishing of the season by calling it a year so early, but that just leaves me all the more anxious and excited for next year. Plus, it was nice to winterize the boat on a sunny warm day. And put it away dry for once. Quote

Chowderhead Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 The last day I fished this season was the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The ice is getting thick around here (Eastern Nebraska) -- but that is to be expected when the temps late last week were -11+ on Sunday morning with windchill in the -30's. Brrrrrrrr... Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted December 22, 2016 Super User Posted December 22, 2016 Unless you fish rivers, ice fish, or have a warm water discharge near you. It's over. Quote
Ohio Archer Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 Lake was 41-42 degs yesterday. No ice except on the north facing banks. Rain and upper 50s expected this weekend into Monday. Water was pretty stirred up from all the rain last weekend. A lot of crap floating that was washed into it as well. Looks like the water came up 18-22" then was dropped back to winter pool. Some coves had ice rings on the stumps. Hope to get back out next week. Quote
