Big-Bass Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 I would like to get ONE Megabass Vision 110 to cover the variety of baitfish in my area. There are mostly alewives, shiners (common and emerald), and even a lake that supposedly has ciscos. What color would be my best bet for matching these baitfish varieties as I target smallmouth on jerkbaits? Thanks and best wishes on the water! Quote
thebillsman Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Threadfin shad and anything the like will probably be fine. Silver finishes will be your best bet if you're trying to match the hatch. Give the Trick Darter a look, especially given the size of most alewife. Quote
Logan S Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 So many good MB colors! I always tell people to start with GP Pro Blue and French Pearl...Can't go wrong with those and they will work anywhere bass live. With what you described I'd go with Pro Blue first. There are literally hundreds of MB 110 colors so if you really want to go down that rabbit hole it can get expensive, but fun. I'd stick with the two I mentioned above to start with and expand from there if you want to. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 15, 2016 Global Moderator Posted November 15, 2016 French pearl is my number 1 producing color for smallmouth. It's hard to go wrong with Pro Blue as well though. Quote
IndianaFinesse Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 Gp sexy shad, it's the perfect combination of semi-transparent, some blue on top, white belly, and a faint chartruse stripe along the side. Quote

Big-Bass Posted November 15, 2016 Author Posted November 15, 2016 I know Pro Blue is a standard but can anyone compare Pro Blue with the Crystal Shad color (which has some green) to imitate Alewife and Cisco and/or Shiner/Minnows. Do Alewives have more blue/purple hues in them or more green/blue? For the clear water, I am up in the air over what color I should get. The problem is, there are too many colors that I like and I cannot narrow it down. Quote
Logan S Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 If you want to exactly match each different baitfish you'll likely need a few different colors, although I don't think that's necessary. Pro Blue and French Pearl are sort of the 'safe' colors in that they are proven time and again, which is why I recommended them at first. You certainly don't have to limit yourself to those . Crystal Shad is very similar to Pro Blue but with green replacing blue on the back, it does have a little more of the 'illusion' type finish than Pro Blue does - There is also GP Pro Green which is extremely similar to both of those colors. You might also consider GP Skeleton Tennessee, which is another variation on the same overall pattern but with faint chartreuse markings on the bottom of the tail........I could probably continue this paragraph for pages, but you get the idea . There's a lot of choices, I think you'd be best served by picking the one that appeals to you the most based on what you see on your waters. I have a bunch of 110's in many colors, but if I'm ever unsure of what to throw I come back to Pro Blue and French Pearl... 1 Quote
Big-Bass Posted November 16, 2016 Author Posted November 16, 2016 I ended up getting HT Kossori Shad since I think it is a little like Pro Blue, a little like Sexy Shad, and a little like Tennessee Shad all in one. It looks very similar to what Alewives look like around here and I hope it's a nice bait. 1 Quote

First 110 I ever got was Haricho Reaction, which at first glance is a hideous version of "Clown" but over the years it has been my best producing color from the muddiest gizzard shad filled waters in OK to the clearest silverside filled waters in CA. The pattern you got will do great! Quote
Hot Rod Johnson Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 My two choices are, #1 GP Pro Green-JP Color and #2 is HT Ito-Wakasagi Color. I have confidence in both of these lures. Quote
Big-Bass Posted May 15, 2017 Author Posted May 15, 2017 Anyone use MB Sexy Stream yet as an alewife imitation? I have HT Kossori Shad as well (see above) but this color also has me intrigued because it looks really nice. Quote

DubyaDee Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 I've got a handful of 110's. My current favorite is elegy bone. The chartreuse belly looks killer in the water when it dances from side to side. 1 Quote

lunkerboss923 Posted December 26, 2021 Posted December 26, 2021 Nobody talks about it,, but the Ito Clear Laker is a great color and a fish catcher. Just means more for me!!! Quote
Super User Munkin Posted December 27, 2021 Super User Posted December 27, 2021 Think my favorite is called stardust shad? Two honorable mentions are clear laker and matte shad though. Allen Quote
