BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted November 13, 2016 BassResource.com Administrator Posted November 13, 2016 This is my seasonal rant. This holiday season please don't drink and drive and remember to wear your seatbelts. You know how you always hear and see commercials on TV that say don't drink and drive and wear your seatbelt or you might die. I say that is a bunch of crap. A buddy of mine works in one of the largest and busiest trauma centers in the Northwest and I can tell you from his stories that those who die are the lucky ones. Those commercials need to say don't do it or you will end up paralyzed, limbless, with skin grafts on your face because the windshield peeled your face off. You will ruin your life as you know it. In many cases, after you get better, you will be arrested and spend several years behind bars. You could kill or injure other people. When you come into the trauma center this is what will happen to you if you aren't dead. You will be laid on a hard board to support your back. They will proceed to cut your clothes off and you will be laying there naked for everyone to see. After the nurses stick a couple of IV's in you and draw some blood, the doctors will roll you up on your side to check your back for spinal injuries then before they lay you back down they will put a glove on and stick a finger up your butt to see if you are bleeding internally. Then they will lay you back down on that hard board and you will be poked and prodded and questioned by the police. Then they take an x-ray or two, and possibly take you to surgery, or to have Cat Scan to see if your brain isn't swelling. They may put a catheter (large tube) into your pecker so you don't pee all over yourself, and draw your urine to give to the cops. Eventually during this process someone will take a thin sheet and cover you up. Then there you will lay, cold, until all your labs and workups get processed. Trust me, this sucks. This is what happens to YOU. Now think about what your family has to go through, and those of others whom you might of injured or killed. So be smart and be careful. We want you around for another year of great fishing and stories. Enjoy the holidays responsibly. 21 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 13, 2016 Global Moderator Posted November 13, 2016 It's not pretty. I'm the guy that gets to come sit with you at the hospital to make sure you have leg irons on one of your ankles that's attached to the bed, so when you finally do heal up, I can transfer you to jail. Call a taxi, call an uber driver, call a friend, just don't drink and drive. 15 Quote

Super User Gundog Posted November 13, 2016 Super User Posted November 13, 2016 Last time I was in the hospital I had to check in through the ER. As I was checking in a drunk driver who was in a one car accident came in. He wasn't in the ER very long. Then I saw a priest walking into the same area they took the drunk driver. You can figure out the rest. It ain't worth it. Quote
OCdockskipper Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 It seems like in most DUI accidents with fatalities, the only one that lives is the drunk driver. As bad as being injured, hospitalized or killed would be, I would suggest it would be worse to live the rest of your life knowing that your actions led to the death of innocents. 5 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted November 14, 2016 Global Moderator Posted November 14, 2016 I have absolutely no pity for those who drink and drive and sustain any type of injury..NONE They made a conscious decision to get blasted and get in that car. They deserve all the pain and disability they may have. They put my family's life, and everyone else's life in danger because of thier selfish, self centerd, egotistical feeling that thier high is worth more than my family's life If I offended anyone too bad Rant over Mike 1 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted November 14, 2016 Super User Posted November 14, 2016 I used to do it in my late teens, early 20s.A few times,I woke up the next day with no idea how I got there.Very thankful to God to have been delivered from that.Havent been drunk now for 32 years. One young man I grew up with killed a mom and daughter while driving drunk. His arm was permanently mangled..Got 7 years in prison and license permanently revoked. When he got out,I saw him one night at a store DRIVING AND DRINKING.I said something about it and he wouldn't listen.Around 6 months later he was drunk and walked out in front of a car and was KILLED.Could have been me. I think drunkenness is bad period. Even if you're not driving. 2 Quote

This seems to be the case in a lot of situations, or maybe I just notice it more. It hits really close to home because we just lost a 21 year veteran of our department to a drunk driver. He was on a traffic stop and a drunk driver slammed into the back of his cruiser, which instantly caught fire. Hopefully he was killed instantly or at least knocked out by the impact before the fire engulfed his car. My wife and I attended one of his services. As a Type A person, there is always a desire to fix things and make things better, but when I saw the pain and anguish in the eyes of his wife and two young daughters, there's nothing that can fix that pain. The hurt and anger is still very much alive. The driver of the truck that hit him ran from the scene and was basically uninjured. He's now in our custody and charged with Second Degree Murder. http://www.odmp.org/officer/22959-master-deputy-sheriff-brandon-collins Quote
Buckeye Ron Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 There was a time when I was the guy that got to explain to the family why their loved one won't be coming home again,or why daddy had to go to heaven and not tell his kids goodby. Try that one on for size. I have zero respect for anyone who jeopardizes themselves or another person because they chose to be selfish. Thats all I have to say about that... 4 Quote
