NED rig with a tail

Not technically a NED rig but has anyone ever tried usung 3" of the back of a Zoom Fish Stick on a NED type jighead? I would think it would work well.

The back 3" of the Saw Tail Wormz can work well, and the front 3" can work well also. It is slightly slimmer than a TRD, with different body ribs. Try it.

I have come to believe that one of the things that differentiates a Ned rig from any other type of small grub or worm presentation is the use of ElaZtech products.  For example, I use GYB Senko's often when skipping docks, but there is a distinct difference in how a 3" Senko on a jig head looks in the water compared to a TRD.  The way it sinks, how it stands up, the movement of the bait when you are not imparting action, all very different.  For me, there is also a distinct difference in results.

Therefore, if you want a Ned rig with a tail, I'd suggest using a Hula StickZ.  You can cut it down to whatever size you want.  There also is a new TRD Tube, which is slightly smaller than the TRD.

I agree with OCdockskipper that the use of Elaztech baits is one of main differences that makes the Ned rig so effective. It's buoyancy that makes it fall differently and at a slower rate, and it's so soft that it seems to always has some kind of subtle movement going on that normal plastics don't have, especially at slow speeds. This is not to say that you can't use regular plastics or that they won't work, they do, I know that from personal experience, but I've found the Elaztech baits to be much more effective a high enough percentage of the time that I really don't bother with regular plastics on a Ned rig anymore.

The Hula StickZ would be a good option that is similar to the bait you're asking about. It was productive for me last week.

For me I have found uses for the bouyant Elaztech baits and a heavily salted bait like 1/2 of an Anglers Choice Wart Hawg. The Wart Hawg is skinnier than a Zinkerz and I think all the salt keeps the bait swimming more horizontal vs the Zinkerz having a more tail up presentation. This year I was about 50/50 between the two baits. When fish are triggering on small baitfish I feel the skinnier salted sticks work better. When the bass are looking down for craws the Zman baits have done better for me.

That Zoom stick should work really well too, I like the look the forked tail would give.

BPS offers their Stick-o in a 3.25" version with a forked tail like the larger Zoom worm.  I bought a pack in baby bass at the end of the summer.  Only really fished them once, but they were very effective t-rigged in small streams.  I haven't stuck on on a jig head yet, but plan to once winter wading season picks up.

As bluebasser mentioned above, the Hula Stikz work great and will accomplish what you're after. In fact I have grown to like them more than the TRD.
