MDRookie Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Hi.. I'm heading up to New Haven, Connecticut to see a friend for the next six days. Can someone help me out with some places to fish? We are going to try the "Tidal Marsh" and the southern part of the Housatonic River... for some stripers.. maybe? I would like to be able to do a little trout fishing as well.. any suggestions? Willing to travel an hour any direction. Thanks in advance for any suggestions/help!!! Quote
Super User Angry John Posted November 10, 2016 Super User Posted November 10, 2016 There are great places to fish in ct. I lived in the new London area and know the lakes and rivers a lot better in that area. I would recommend candlewood if you can get a boat its the small mouth heaven of the area. The CTfishfinder * has my reviews of CT lakes and threw the years has had a lot of active members giving good reviews. 1 Quote
BurrStone Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 If you're in New Haven proper you might try Beaver Pond Park. Its by Southern CT University, check the corner of Crescent and Fournier streets on google maps. Driving northbound on Crescent you'd pass Fournier on your right and make your next right which takes you along a dirt road by a rugby pitch. You'll see a shoreline with a bench there and can safely park unnoticed. Its on my list of places to fish and haven't fished it yet but its got bass in there. Its also in stray bullet range of some of the worst neighborhoods in New Haven. I pass through the area often and its under-fished except of for the spring fishing derby for local kiddies when they throw a bunch of doomed trout in there. Quote
Janderson45 Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Schoolie to small keeper stripers are all over the Housatonic river.. On a good day this time of year you could easily catch a boatload of them. One of my buddies was out there 2 weeks ago and him and his brother boated over 100 fish. Candlewood has already been mentioned, that's a great option.. I also really like Mashapaug as a different option, a bit of a drive north but it holds some state records for a good reason.. It's in Bigelow state park, on the Massachusetts border. Quote
MDRookie Posted November 18, 2016 Author Posted November 18, 2016 Thanks for the replies... We fished a finger of the Quinnipiac River on Saturday.. windy as heck but managed and had a good time. Probably reeled in 30 or so stripers. Sunday we went up north a little to West Hill Pond... only managed to catch 2 trout but was a beautiful day. Monday.. another beautiful day.. went to the Housatonic and had a great time catching 30+ stripers. End of day my buddy caught a 33 incher.. roughly 15 pounds. 2 Quote
