stk44 Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 I fished all morning with the water temps in the high 40s. Around noon, the sun came out and I was able land a few good bass. My best came on a red lipless crank: I thought for sure she was my PB, but 4 lb 9 oz.... Either way, it was beautiful out and I saw tons of deer. This is the first year I didn't put the rods away and pull the bow out. I kinda like this new routine. 16 Quote

I didn't get a length either since I was by myself and didn't want to keep her out of the water too long. I still haven't mastered the selfie fish pic yet. 1 Quote

If he would've went, he would've said that should've been his fish because he was just about to cast there... This has been my first year in my new kayak, it's so much fun. It's amazing how much better you can perform once you can go to the fish, instead of waiting for the fish to come to you when fishing from shore. I fish a 3,000 acre reservoir but, now that I have some idea of what to look for, I'm able to eliminate dead water A LOT quicker than I used to. 2 Quote

I have a boat also, but my best fish have come in my tube! Just wondering! 1 Quote

I've fished in a bass boat only several times in my life, but if I were to guess, I would say because you can cover much more water. When I think about how much time I waste paddling from spot to spot and repositioning my kayak in the wind this definitely makes me less productive as opposed to sitting on a trolling motor and not having to worry about it as much. Every time I'm making an adjustment in my kayak paddling with one hand I just wasted another opportunity to catch a fish. On the other hand, I can take my kayak into the thickest vegetation that some bass boats can't even explore... so it's a trade off I guess. Quote

I feel like I'm working a little harder and at a definite disadvantage when I'm in my yak versus my boat. Even simple things like hooksets and fighting fish are more difficult in my kayak, so when I get a good one, it's always a little more satisfying . 3 Quote

You also have stealth on your side and you can fish water much more thoroughly. I know a guy who is a very accomplished Yak fisherman. He makes very good use of a light anchor. Quote
stk44 Posted November 9, 2016 Author Posted November 9, 2016 I agree. It definitely has it's pro's/con's, sometimes it's good to be forced to slow down and fish an area. Other times you need to keep moving and cover lots of water. I think about all the bonus fish I could catch if I could paddle and cast. I plan on purchasing a bass boat in the next couple years, but some of the bays that I fish will definitely be more productive out of a 'yak. So IMO, both can be productive under the correct circumstances. Quote
stk44 Posted November 14, 2016 Author Posted November 14, 2016 Well, I'm still on the hunt. I went out Saturday morning through afternoon. Coooold morning but it was sunny with no wind. Water was 45-49 degrees. I was still able to put 3 in the boat, but they are getting pretty sluggish. My best of the day 3 lb 6 oz. This ones head definitely was oversized compared to the body. I'm not sure how active they will be by next weekend so I may punch out to the main lake of the bays continue to slow down. 3 Quote
