Hot Rod Johnson Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 If you were limited to only one crankbait, you’d do well making it a "Bomber Model A"... A staple with avid fishermen for decades, the Model A’s timeless design, proven durability and true-running dependability define the meaning of “go-to” lure. It's also a excellent multi-species lure. The term “legendary” tends to get thrown around rather loosely in the fishing industry, but in regards to the "Bomber Model A Crankbait" legendary seems only fitting. The "Bomber Model A Crankbait" has been a staple among avid anglers for years, and continues to get the job done with its tight wiggle and quick-floating action. A workhorse in the field, the "Bomber Model A Crankbait" can withstand severe punishment from big bass and keep producing. The "Bomber Model A Crankbait" is known for its true running dependability, and comes straight out of the package ready for tournament action. The definition of a go-to lure, the "Bomber Model A Crankbait" on that stays tied up for years to come. The "Bomber Model 5A and 6A" has probably caught more fish that can be counted. Just a dependable crank that works in all seasons. check out the three best colors - Shad, Firetiger & Crawdad are some of the best choices. jr231 Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 The hooks usually aren't so great.. but. It can not be beat in its price range IMO. This exact model saved me from a skunk 2 weeks ago. When I couldn't get anything going on plastics, a chartreuse model 5a managed to hook 3. None were more than 2lbs but i was so happy I decided to give it a chance. Quote

None were more than 2lbs but i was so happy I decided to give it a chance. I counted all my Bomber models A cranks which include 4A, 5A, 6A, 7A and the Deep Flat A and I have 74 total. All of my Bomber model A cranks came with a bronze TX3 hook, they last a season and then need to be replaced but they are as sharp as you will find and with a cranking rod the hooks seldom will bend out. Those hooks have a little bend that Excalibur use to call the rotating treble and trust me, those hooks need pliers to remove almost 100% of the time unless you barely hook the fish and manage to land it. Some anglers mistake bronze hooks to mean poor quality or dull, that isn't always the case, Mann's uses an Eagle Claw Laser Sharp hook on the 1 minus series as well as the Baby X, they are bronze but not the ordinary Eagle Claw hooks most think of, the Laser Sharp models in my opinion are better than Mustads, and I like Mustad hooks. So if you have or are going to buy some Bomber cranks and you see they have the rotating trebles in bronze, try them out before thinking they aren't good, you may be surprised. 3 Quote
jr231 Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 I didn't say they were bad.. just said they aren't so great. I wasn't that impressed by the hooks. But usually when a bass bites something with 6 points I usually am able to bring it In.. All in all bomber and rapala are the only cranks I use. I like the VMC hooks alot. And sometimes switch and put a sureset model on some of my shallow bomber cranks. I know some people don't like them. But for me, it's not about what other people like. Quote
Hot Rod Johnson Posted November 4, 2016 Author Posted November 4, 2016 For the most part I change out the treble hooks to the KVD Elite Treble Hooks for my "Bomber 5A and 6A Crankbaits". They have an extra-short shank, wide gap and “Triple Grip” design. The shorter shanks allow me to “upsize” the hook for a bigger bite. Mustad's 1X wire delivers an optimal balance of power and flex, and the shorter length of the Short Shank design also allows anglers to use larger hooks, further increasing hooking potential (i.e. you can replace a stock Size 4 hook with the KVD (Size 2). These hooks are a easy upgrade to any stock treble. They are sharp, strong and really improve your hook-ups. The fish stay hooked just make sure you have your drag set up correctly and having a rod for Crankbaits doesn't hurt either. Quote

Do you think people won't realize you're just quoting promotional descriptions from tacklewarehouse, bomberlures .com, etc? Are these companies paying you? lol 1 Quote

The "Partial Quotes" that I use are for clarity and not for sponsor purpose. I use them so some of the information is as close to accurate as possible. LOL Quote
Super User WRB Posted November 4, 2016 Super User Posted November 4, 2016 I use the Bomber 7A, very similar to Norman DD14, the right size and running depth for the lakes I fish. Tom 1 Quote

I agree with @smalljaw67 about the stock TX3 hooks; they are solid. It seems like the only time I bend them is when I get impatient with the pliers (maybe they hold too well ) 1 Quote
