SCkayakfisher Posted November 1, 2016 Posted November 1, 2016 I am a kayak fisher and I don't like to paddle extremely long distances to get to a spot on the lake and if so I want to know how long it will take me. Needless to say is there some way for me to place a pin and drag a route to calculate distance? Or even if there is just on that will show how long something from pin to pin. Thanks Quote

Wind Knot Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 I use Google Earth to find how far I'm going when I'm planning a river kayaking trip Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 2, 2016 Super User Posted November 2, 2016 I use the Routes feature on the Navionics phone app. Been using it for years for both mapping out tournament runs and kayak trips. You can plug in your speed, and it will determine the arrival times. 3 Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted November 2, 2016 Super User Posted November 2, 2016 Plain old Google Maps does it too, over water or land, straight or winding routes. -T9 Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted November 3, 2016 Super User Posted November 3, 2016 Google, navionics, or buy a gps as that will do it as well. Quote

flyingmonkie Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 Might be helpful to know how quickly you cover water in your yak. First thing I did when I got my kayak was take it for a mile cruise and timed myself. Then use Google Maps to plan your route. Quote

It tells distance traveled, average speed, time, max speed, etc. I just want to know how far distances are on a new lake though. Quote
