Jann H Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 I recently purchased a Hogy Epoxy jig, it is 7/8 ounce and I was wondering if 8 pound mono could handle that. The lure feels pretty heavy for that line and I don't feel comfortable. If you could help thanks. Quote
bigturtle Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 For a lure that heavy, i would step up the line size to 15-17lb, 8lb is way too light 1 Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted October 29, 2016 Super User Posted October 29, 2016 Minimum I would be comfortable with would be 14 probably. But then again I know there are guys who like to fish football heads on 8lb line so I would just say fish with what feels comfortable. Start heavy and downsize if you want. Quote
hunterPRO1 Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 yeah id say use 14-17lb mono/fluro or a 30ish lb braid. Quote
IndianaFinesse Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 I would go with a little heavier line, probably twelve pound. Not so much because of the weight, more because of the necessity of heavier rods for harder hooksets needed to drive beefy jig hooks into a bass's thick jaw. Quote
