JacksonT Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 Hello everyone , I'm looking to get a new rod and reel , this will be my only rod for a while so I'm looking for a all around type rod and reel. I primarily throw soft plastics and jigs but will occasionally throw a crank bait or a spinner, I normally roll medium to slow speed with my soft plastics and jigs . I would love y'alls opinion thanks Quote
blckshirt98 Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 Since you didn't provide a budget I will say that if all of my tackle burned down to the ground or got stolen, the only rod I need is a Phenix M1 MXS72M and any 2500 size Shimano reel. I've caught more fish on that rod than all of my other rods combined. I've used it for trout, for bass, in the surf, on piers, on jetties. Small-to-medium cranks/spinnerbaits/chatterbaits, dropshot, T-rig, C-rig, wacky, and almost everything in between. When I go fishing and don't want to deal with multiple rods, that's the rod I take with me. This rod should have broken on me and the guides should have all popped out a long time ago but it's been bulletproof and still works like it did on day one (ok the faux carbon pattern grip they used on the older models has mostly worn away). Easily the most versatile rod I own (and I have over 30). Quote
Finnz922 Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 Daiwa Tatula CT 7.3 on a IROD Lone Star Special 7'3"MH Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted November 2, 2016 Super User Posted November 2, 2016 Finnz922 awesome choice for an all around setup. Another would be a Powell Max3D 683CEF Look up Tackle Tour review Powell Max 683CEF. Again match it up with a Tatula CT 6.3-1. Lastly a Dobyns Fury FR 703C Quote
BrackishBassin Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 If I could only have one rod, I'd probably go with a 7' Med Ugly Stik GX2 with a Penn Battle 2 in the 3000 size. But I fish salt and fresh, and that combo would cover both with no problems. Quote
