Guess these weights! I caught what I believe to be my biggest bass when I did not have a scale.. that being my last time not having a scale. The scale I use is the gray Rapala digital.

Thanks guys!

You need to learn how to hold bass. Without a good reference to length the photos leave you guessing??

Tom

PS, fingers go inside the jaw, thumb outside when hanging down.

If your hand doesn't fit inside the mouth it's not worth a photo.

I'm getting tired of these threads.  If you get caught without your scale take a photo of it alongside a rod or something, or better yet measure it.

Nice Bass ~

Congrats on your possible new PB too.

I think they all weigh at least 10 pounds, but I my eyesight isn't what it used to be.

Indiana- I had a rod w me, and a tacklebox. I didn't have a tape measure or anything but I did measure from my waist and had a sharpie and she was about 24.5". She'd be huge but she was skinny. I should of took a better picture but the bigger the fish, I have more respect so I took the picture, marked her length and released her.

A-Jay- I'm so ready for the 10lb+. Don't worry I'll get a pic of her too

I'd give 'er 3.5-4, camera phones take terrible shots.  I try to hold it right up against my chest/torso for size reference rather than outstretched arm, which never gives any real scale and always makes your hand look huge simply out of perspective.

Well said.I put 2 closed fist in the mouth of my biggest bass. You can usually stick 1 closed fist in the mouth of a 4-5 pound or better bass.

It's extremely simple to measure the length and girth of a bass with a tape measure. You can even measure the length and girth with a piece of fishing line.

Me too. If you care about the weight so much buy a $10 scale and weigh it

I enjoy the "guess the weight" threads. At the VERY least, its just another picture of a bass, which I enjoy looking at. If you don't like these threads, then the solution is about as simple as it gets. Don't read them :)

Makes me chuckle that it takes 10x the amount of typing to voice one's displeasure than it would to guess the weight. And even more than it would take to not read the thread at all lol

And my guesses:

1. Looks like a fish with a big head and skinny body. I'll say 3lbs

2. Maybe pushing 2?

3 & 4: both look like very solid fish and wouldn't be surprised if they both went 4+.

Guess you didn't read anything I've posted on this topic.. I have the weight of all but one. That was the first big fish I caught, (I was 15) and the last time I'd be scale-less. I also believe it weighed more than the 6-3 I caught. The photo makes it seem small as the angle is downward on the fish.

Statement still stands. You'll never know the weight of a fish you didn't weigh. Pick a number that sounds good in your head and go with that if it must have a weight, it's the same thing has having random internet strangers pick a number out of the air.

I have posted this dozens of time; use your line to measure the bass if you don't have a small tape measure in your pocket. Measure from the closed mouth tip of lower jaw to the center of the tail and cut the line to that length. Wrap the line around the bass with dorsal fin down at the widest area, cut the line and tie a over hand knot to identify the piece as girth. You always have line!

Length X Length X girth divided dy 1200 = lbs within 10%.

Tom

PS the way you hold bass will damage the fish jaw hinge.

Tom: What's your opinion on boga's on the lower jaw? Or the 2 hander like this-

This is the 5lb13oz, also #4 from above.

Supporting the bass with both hands is ideal. Lip grippers don't over stress the jaw hinge, they can  damage the thin lower jaw membrane, but that heals faster and the bass can still capture prey.
