Nstd Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 If it was a toss up between Curado 50e or 70 which one would you buy? Quote
johnD. Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 I have both..The drag is way better on the 70 , it comes in a higher gear ratio. and parts will be available farther down the road for the 70. But , I like simplicity of the old style brakes on the 50, and the fact that it was made in Japan. Quote
DaveT63 Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 I both the 51E and the 71. I am still dialing the 71 in. If I had to choose today, it would be the 51E because I am very familiar with it and have it dialed in. I should get there with the 71 soon though. DAve Quote
Super User JustJames Posted October 25, 2016 Super User Posted October 25, 2016 I also had both chornarch 50e and 70HG. I like them both but to use I prefer 50e over 70, To me 50e cast and retrieve is way smoother than 70. I also feel 50e palm better due to it seet abit lower on the reel. which one I would buy right now? 70XG then 70HG due to its newer technology, price and faster speed. Quote
johnD. Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 my 70 came with a defective gear set , once i replaced it the smoothness was there. Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 I dont have a 70, but the one thing I like the 50e has is the lower gear ratio (6.4 to 1). I used mine for a lot of squarebills and senkos and I just caught more fish with it, like a lot more. Then, I increased it to 7 to 1 for flipping and just not the production. Now it's not all related to the gear ratio alone, I know that, but 6.x to 1 is a ratio that fishes better for me. Not sure y. I dont think you can go wrong with either, it's a Shimano. 1 Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted October 25, 2016 Super User Posted October 25, 2016 I have several Curado & Chronarch 50's. My most recent reel purchase was a Curado 70. What I like about the 50s is that them seem to be idiot proof, i.e. I was able to use them well right out of the box. There is a learning curve to the Curado 70. It isn't as user friendly when you try to muscle it and get a few more yards on a cast. 1 Quote
Nstd Posted October 25, 2016 Author Posted October 25, 2016 Does anyone sell shallow spools for the 70? Couldnt find anything on japantackle. Quote

Dude you can't compare a CHRONARCH to a Curado, a Chronarch no matter to which series it belongs will always be better than a Curado. Quote

Chronarch E series and Curado E series are literally the same reel. Only difference is in the paint job. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted October 26, 2016 Global Moderator Posted October 26, 2016 I like the 70. The 50's are too small for my hands and caused my hands to hurt from trying to grip them after extended use. My 70's cast better than my 50's ever did too. I haven't noticed any geary feeling, and I've had mine under more load than any bass reel should ever be. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted October 26, 2016 Super User Posted October 26, 2016 I haven't used a 70 yet but I like the I series better than the E series in the 200 size. Quote
Nstd Posted October 27, 2016 Author Posted October 27, 2016 Does any body know if avail is going to come out with a honey comb spool for the 70? Quote

No I'm holding both right now if any difference it is like 1-2 millimeters. I grabbed my calipers and palm sideplates basically same. Front to back length same. Thumb bar maybe a mm higher on 70. Minute differences overall. I much prefer the newest brake system the 70 has over the vbs of the 50. 1 Quote

Something about the 50 hits a nerve in my thumb occasionally while I'm palming it that sends a shooting pain through my hand, couldn't continue to use them. Quote
