Coopa Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Im down to the 2 models: Lowrance 334c iGPS http://www.lowrance.com/Marine/Products/LMS-334CiGPS.asp and the Eagle 642c iGPS http://www.eaglegps.com/Products/GPS/intellimap642c.htm same price on each and very similar units in their features, except the eagle has the 640v pixels vs lowrance's 480v pixels. however the lowrance has 2400 watts vs eagles 1600? ( the stoer posted the eagles power but their own website and manual dont) This will be the main gps/depth finder for the boat and the x-110 will move to the front of the boat. i plan on using a thru-hull transducer and most waters we'll fish will be no deeper than 200 feet with no real fishing happening below 50. Ive never owned an Eagle and just looking for some thoughts from people who expierenced either of these models. Quote
Super User flechero Posted April 6, 2006 Super User Posted April 6, 2006 GPS-Only IntelliMap® 642C iGPS The Eagle you selected is a gps chartplotter only - NO SONAR. (according to the links you provided) You are not comparing apples to apples. Eagle is made by Lowrance so as for quality, they are good. I have had both brands over the years and had no problems with any of them. Quote
Coopa Posted April 6, 2006 Author Posted April 6, 2006 woops, my mistake. the model i meant to link to is http://www.eaglegps.com/Products/Combo/fishelite642c.htm im just curious about shooting a lower power thru the hull Quote
Super User flechero Posted April 7, 2006 Super User Posted April 7, 2006 They have much better power these days, we use to use shoot thrus on units with much less power than even the cheap ones use now. Either of the units you selected are going to work fine with a shoot thru, as long as it's properly mounted. (and not an aluminum boat!) Quote
Coopa Posted April 7, 2006 Author Posted April 7, 2006 im guessing at this point my hangup is the power vs more pixels. and im safe flechero its going on fiberglass boat. Quote
Super User flechero Posted April 7, 2006 Super User Posted April 7, 2006 Unless you are fishing extremely deep... like deeper than Bass live, either has way more power than you will ever need. The "weaker" of the two is rated to scan to 800' Even if the marketing guys were drinking when they came up with that number you still have several hundred feet to play with. ...lol Are you near a bass pro or cabela's or some place with a selection on demo? You will be able to look at them running and you will see if the added pixels are a big help. I have a Lowrance X-55, Eagle Ultra Plus and a Lowrance LMS 332C so I can't steer you either way on the units you are deciding between, sorry. Quote
Bob8899 Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 I believe the eagle units screen is a little bit narrower in width than the 334c (but a little taller to get the same 5" diag). I have a 332c and the screen size is challenged enough when running map and sonar split. The resolution is excellent in the 332c and the screen is easily readable in sunlight and wearing polaroids.
