OCdockskipper Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 Just think about how many people have launched their boats there and never made a cast, believing there wasn't anything big near the boat rental area. 5 Quote
Super User Gundog Posted October 24, 2016 Super User Posted October 24, 2016 Holy mackerel Andy that is one big bass. Looks like it was in California. Any idea exactly where? Quote
lo n slo Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 you could total up every one of my fish from the last two trips and it would NOT be 17 lbs : - ( 2 Quote
BassObsessed Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 Lower Otay. I was told about those giants around the docks where you're not supposed to fish. Should have went to just ''check it out'' while I was there on vacation. Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted October 24, 2016 Super User Posted October 24, 2016 and that bait flying out right at the net!!!! can you imagine the disappointment had it come out seconds earlier..... Quote

I can't think of what I would have done if I had seen how big that fish was and lost it at the net. Probably jumped in or just pounded on the deck of the boat. 3 Quote

It's not illegal to fish in marinas, some restrict fishing off or around docks for safety reasons and during tournaments. I always check out marina docks having worked at marinas during summers as a teen you know some of the biggest bass in the lake live there. Hope you enjoyed your vacation and had a good time, caught a few good bass. Tom Quote
Super User JustJames Posted October 24, 2016 Super User Posted October 24, 2016 The guy got so lucky that huge bass didnt putup a lot of fight. The way bass came un done after he net her was so scary. A good reminder for all boaters out there dont leave your net at home. Ill also have to remind myself that too. Quote
Super User WRB Posted October 24, 2016 Author Super User Posted October 24, 2016 Heavy swimbait rod with 30 lb line and a big treble hook swimbait can over power any fresh water bass. One good head shake at the boat and that bass was gone! You need heavy tackle to effective cast heavy big swimbaits. I caught all my 17+lb giant bass on 10 to 12 lb line using MH bass rods and 100 size reels using jigs, you can't over power these big bass standard tackle. Have 't hooked a giant bass over 15 lbs on swimbait tackle....yet! I thought this video was well done, the best I have seen. Tom 3 Quote

Didn't catch as many big fish as I hoped due to some plans that changed . May be in the area in early spring to chase after the big girls again. Quote
