Texas rig and jig rod

I will be fishing Texas rigs and jigs up to 3/4 ounce and I have two rods to choose from, a duckett ghost 7'6 extra heavy or a 7' medium heavy st.croix avid. Could you guys tell me what you think which rod you would use out of these two. And I will be fishing the jigs and Texas rigs on braid

The MH Avid will handle casting those baits better than the XHVY Ghost. I would use the Avid unless I was short lining like punching matts or something, then Ghost would be the way to go.

Ok but to get into more detail both are sensitive and the avid is older and kind of best up then would you still go with the avid, and one more questions one of the eyes has a bent arm and the epoxy cracked and I put some new in there, if I fished the avid would it be fine with that eye?

I would still use the Avid. I think it will load up and release/cast the lure better. The Ghost is just too stiff to do that. To see what mean about the Ghost being too stiff to accurately cast, put your reel on it, tie on a jig and take it outside and give it a cast or 2. If you think you can get the accuracy and distance you'll need then use the Ghost. To me a 7'-6" ex hvy rod if for flipping and other short line applications. I will be good for A-rigs and BIG swim baits too.

 If the ceramic insert still in the eye and it's not loose or bent to where it impedes the line from passing through it, it should be fine.

Ok so you would say go with the ghost if it will cast because I have already used it in ponds but one of my tournaments is this weekend and I will be fishing lake Martin, which has quite a few spots  

I'm thinking going with the avid just because spots surge a lot and I want to have a little give

For Martin and Spots can you put a 3/4 football jig on the Ghost and maybe a Senko or worm on the Avid for docks?

Yea true, very true I have a senko and I meant the tourney is next weekend and also do u think the ghost would be good for Carolina rigs? Cause if you have every wished with a duckett they kinds feel a little overpowered to me, so the extra heavy feels more like just a heavy to me

No, I've never fished a Duckett. You should be fine Carolina rigging with it if is more like a hvy. You may need to stay with a weight of 1/2- 5/8 oz. or more but what the heck, give it a try.

Alright well for the spots I may stick with the avid just cause the fish I will be catching probably won't be over 3-4 pounds and I may not even fish the 3/4 ounce jig, thank you for the great advice!!

I have the AVC70MHF, and it's not my favorite worm & jig rod.  I like it soft tail swimbaits, heavy spinnerbaits, and other bigger, single hook, moving baits.  I've never touched a Duckett, so I have no idea.  My favorite jig rods right now are a MH and H Pinnacle Perfecta DH5 7-3 rods.

Watched several Duckett white rods break during MLF events.

The difference between the 2 choices 7' MH vs 7'6" XH isn't much of a choice. 

The 7' MH SC would be my choice between those 2 rods for casting football jigs.

I would suggest one thing,  As soon as I could I would find a local rod repair guy and have any defects on the Avid repaired. They are great rods, but you are fishing it a little compromised. Find a good local tackle shop and ask who builds custom rods or does rod repairs. Have him fix any cracked varnish, defective or bent guides etc. My personal best KY spot came off Center Hill Lake in TN. It weighed 7 pounds 1 ounce and no I could not have landed it if I had a rod that was compromised in any way. That fish came off a rock bluff wall and ran down 60 feet then turned up and tail walked before trying to torpedo down again! Those fish just do not give up!  .
