Turn tungsten weights black

If I'm going to pay that much for weights... I'm going to buy them pre colored in whatever color I plan on using..

Yes... but the paint chips off if you drag it across rocks...

Never done it this way. I just bought some of the
powder for jigs - you heat the jig up, dip it in the powder
quickly and voi la! Nice hard coat. So far so good.

I heat my weights to color them. Most of the time I will heat them red to turn it completely black, but sometimes i like to heat them slightly less to achieve a purple/blue color color.

Powder paint looks nice, wears well

Yep! That's what I found out too. Love the purple/blue. Flat black is nice too. I didn't like burning the paint or powder coat off. It didn't come off cleanly and has a rough texture. I'm a little worried about line wear.

I buy mine unpainted and color it myself. If I want some other color, I dip them in rubber paint. very durable and does not chip

Seriously? Aren't you defeating the main purpose of using tungsten weights in the first place, sensitivity? Why not just dip lead weights in the rubber paint and save yourself a bunch of cash?

No, i still get the conpact profile and no need to worry about deforming the line hole when i bang it against cover. Ya i do lose some sensitivty but they are still sensitive enough for me, its not like they turn into lead lol.

A black Sharpie (or whatever color you like), works for awhile but has to be redone, which is quick and easy to do on the water.

I learned that a lighter will not work, at least for me, I used a torch like in that video (which is the one I watched) and they came out black only if they became really Red and hot, Then drop them in Ice water. Even if not perfect they come out better than a sharpie. I also tried boiling water which turned them into a cool swirl looking color since they didn't get too hot, kind of like a nickel color or wierd dark grey....

I only use Tungsten with Inserts so if you do this you will burn out the inserts in the weight. I just made my own new inserts, made sure they did not have sharp edges, and now I am good with weights. 48 Tungsten weights which I now don't mind losing, love blemishes especially for tungsten..they were not even scratched, just has scuff marks.

I would never pay more for colored weights,I go silver for heavy, black, and I get the rainbow ones I like in China with the screw locks for 1/4 the price, 3 min up to 1/2 oz for $6 free shipping. Love that they are now getting Tungsten available in small mins, same with lure making stuff,much better chatterbait blades, hammered, shapes, colors, sizes, .11 each....Love the overseas sites for expensive terminal tackle, I just avoid most lures except Frogs.
