Super User buzzed bait Posted October 19, 2016 Super User Posted October 19, 2016 anyone using the Dobyns DX HP 702c for weightless senkos/flukes? i'd be using 15 or 20lb braid with it and i'm wondering if anyone uses the 2 power for weightless plastics and what your thoughts are on them. thanks in advance! Super User iabass8 Posted October 19, 2016 Super User Posted October 19, 2016 I use the 742c hp for what you intend. It's definitely more of a 2.5 power then at two. The 702 is more appropriately rated as it to power but it's not a rod I would want to use if there was more than two or three blades of grass as cover. aside from that it will work perfect for what you want to use it for 1 Quote
Yudo1 Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 I've never used the 2 power dobyns, but have used a 743 for senkos and flukes that was really nice. I think I'd miss some hook sets with 2 power dobyns, but I heard the new hp has slightly more power than the previous generation. 1 Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted October 19, 2016 Author Super User Posted October 19, 2016 thanks for the replies guys! i was wondering if the braid would compensate for the lighter power, but now i'm thinking maybe the 703 would be the right play... Quote
Super User Columbia Craw Posted October 19, 2016 Super User Posted October 19, 2016 The HP is a totally different blank than the previous DX Extreme. There was " power" added to the upper middle third of the blank. I was advised of this when I made my decision to get the 743C HP. I could feel it right off the bat. My previous Gen DX 702 SP is a drop shot rod if that helps provide what the power rating is like. My 743 HP has been my Senko rod from day one. I use #12 floro on a reel with an SV spool and have had great success. I think Iabass8 is right on. If you think you will ever need to pressure a larger fish away from any cover, look at the 3 power. Call Dobyns direct. I've actually called for input and Richard or Gary took the phone. That's not a bad resource to have when you have a question. Good Luck! 2 Quote

Good Luck! i shot an email over to Richard to get his opinion. he's been more than helpful with some of my previous questions about their rods/ratings and such. i just hadn't heard back from him yet so figured i'd throw it out here. thanks for the info! Cgrinder Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Has your wife declared that no additional NRX rods may be purchased? 1 Quote

DelcoSol Posted October 21, 2016 Posted October 21, 2016 I used to have a DX702C. It's more of a BFS rod. It will cast those things fine but hook setting power is probably not enough. 703 or 743 is the rod you want. 702 was better for open hook tubes and keitechs on a ball head jig. Quote
