What I mean, for me a baitcaster is effortless and natural feeling vs using a spinning when casting and reeling in. I also find for me I'm way more accurate with a BC. Mind you I still have three spinning rods in my regular rotation though, love my FJ and CI 4+. I get it, I really do. I wasn't trying to paint a pic that put all baitcaster users in a "trying to be cool" frame. It might've come across that way... I put lots of time trying to go baitcaster-only, and it still has a certain "hook" in me which is why I still use one. Yeah, down to one simply cuz I felt I got more enjoyment (being able to do more stuff that I like to do) with spinning gear.... My boys do show that "I want to do it cuz it's cool" factor. And their friends do, too. i hear them talk the "dude, you use a spinning reel?" stuff too often. I just chuckle when I hear it. 1 Quote
OCdockskipper Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 I agree with Darren. As I have gotten older, I prefer using the best tool for a job and really don't focus on what someone might think. Light baits and skipping docks go to my spinning rigs, heavier baits and continual winding go to my casting equipment. That means on my home lake, I use spinning 70-30, but can see how if I lived on a lake with different characteristics, it could easily be 70-30 in favor of casting equipment. I believe there was an episode of MLF down in Florida where a few guys were skipping docks. Mark Davis was doing it with a spinning rod and said something along the lines of "I can skip with a casting rod, but I am not near as accurate as with a spinning setup". It makes sense this comes from an older guy whose loaded resume means he has nothing to prove to anyone. 1 Quote
Super User JustJames Posted February 12, 2017 Super User Posted February 12, 2017 Yes baitcaster is faster to cast, less effort and more precise that why when I go fishing I always bring my casting setup. I still gonna skip 3/8 jig or chatter bait with my tatula ct but will always bring my spinning rod in case I wanna skip fluke or senko that way I can use my 50e for crank or jerkbait instead. Quote
