Super User ChrisD46 Posted October 17, 2016 Super User Posted October 17, 2016 I bought two KVD Sexy Dawg Jr.'s from WM and when I got home and opened up the boxes - one had an oval split ring attached and one didn't ! ... Uhm - now not sure if I am supposed to us a split ring with a KVD Sexy Dawg Jr. or not ?? What is your preferance / experience with the Sexy Dawg waking bait : Leave the split ring on OR remove it ? ... Thanks in advance ! Quote
Super User MIbassyaker Posted October 17, 2016 Super User Posted October 17, 2016 I put oval split rings on every walking bait, popper, crankbait, and jerkbait I own. I get the 6th sense oval rings (size 3 for most) from TW, for every bait that doesn't come with one already. Quote

I've always attached right to the lures eyelet and that's worked well for me. 1 Quote

Any bait that will swing or wobble in some way on the retrieve will tend to do so a little more freely if the line tie is not direct to the eyelet. It's most noticeable on things with subtle action like floating minnow baits. A lot of people use a loop knot or a split ring instead of a direct tie. Although, I probably use the split ring tie for a lot of things that don't strictly need it. Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted October 17, 2016 Author Super User Posted October 17, 2016 I wonder if high end walk-the-dog baits such as Lucky Craft Sammy's come with a split ring included ? Quote
Wind Knot Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 When I'm not using split rings I use a perfection loop. Quote

bagofdonuts Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 I always just use a loop knot with no split ring Quote
camman Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 I use a Bill Norman Speed Clip straight to the eyelet 1 Quote

Super User flyfisher Posted October 18, 2016 Super User Posted October 18, 2016 oh, that's different than the perfection loop i know and that is a different knot for sure. Looks like a modified version of the rapala knot. 1 Quote
lo n slo Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 that sequence 3 looks like it could be a booger to get right. Quote
Super User tcbass Posted October 21, 2016 Super User Posted October 21, 2016 Try the Mustad KVD Fastach in size 3. It's what I use for everything. Quote
