I primarily fish two jerk baits, the storm twitch stick, and the  Rapala shadow rap. The twitch stick is an awesome bait, the bigger size casts and mile and has a rolling action similar to a pointer for 1/3 the price. They come with decent hooks too. The shadow rap in deep and shallow are my favorite river jerkbait. Silver and Carbon have worked the best for me.

Not a true suspender as it sinks a little and depending on your situation with the grass they may not be the best option, but the Shadow Rap's are my go to jerkbaits these days. For me the deep model is where it's at.

Rapala x rap shallow SHAD. Olive green or black/orange. Bigger profile than original xrap and also a shallow runner . Also the original floater .  I don't know how this wasn't mentioned it's absolutely deadly in the shallows.

While even the shadow rap does not truly suspend (they either rise or sink slowly-depending on the model), the original floater (without alterations) does not suspend at all.  So they don't count as such.  BUT I do agree with you that they are great subsurface runners.

My favorite here and a Real Sleeper in the category, is the Rapala X-Rap Sub Walk ~

Casts great, barely runs 12 inches down, can be worked easily to walk the dog (at any speed) - Sub-Surface and perhaps it's best attribute, besides suspending on the hesitation - it has a very attractive side roll right before the suspension on the pause.

All of this makes it very suitable in shallow water or in the skinny water over cover, when fish seem hesitant to commit to a surface bait and a jerk bait runs too deep.

The Sub-Walk has accounted for many bass for me.

Interesting, I fish alot of shallow flats this might be a purchase.  It says it can run to 4', is that if you reel down before working?

@Ratherbfishing you are exactly right . And that's exactly why it wasn't mentioned. It rises rather quickly . I'm not sure why you referenced the shadow rap? I was talking about the xrap shallow shad. It does suspend . I've had some that didn't suspend like they were supposed to though, but they still caught fish.

There are too many different "Raps" out there to keep any of them straight.

Lol I pretty much know all of them. I agree there are alot. But the shadow rap is nowhere near the producer of the xrap and it's versions. IMO

Yea - No

Don't know who or how anyone's getting a Sub-Walk down 4 feet but I'd say 2 feet is being Generous.

There's no lip on the bait so there's No 'reeling it down".  It sinks super slowly.  I fish it on braid with a mono leader so it mostly suspends about a foot - it's good.

Get one - the Moss Back Shiner is THE COLOR you want - a little hard to find but worth it in clear water.

Funny thing is TW has it listed under topwaters, but show it dive to 4'.

I'm definitely picking one or two up.

btw ~ if it comes with the VMC flash feather tail hook - I'd recommend changing that mess out.

I usually for go the fluff but if you feel the need - the Mustad Triple Grip Feathered Treble Hook is a good option.

Well took out my Subwalk today thanks to @A-Jay recommendation and I have to say its the Crappie'st lure I've ever thrown.  Hooked up with 4 nice crappie, and 2 bass that would be lucky to measure 10".  Overall pleased with it and looking forward to throwing it some more, especially in the spring.
