frosty Posted October 16, 2016 Posted October 16, 2016 Caught this smallie today, I dropped my scales and didn't realize it until I caught this one. I caught a couple that were in the 1 1/2 pound range, but this one was a good bit bigger, I figured it would go over 2, but I'm not sure, but I am sure it's my pb smallie though, this is the first time I've been smallie fishing since I was in my early teens. 2 Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted October 16, 2016 Super User Posted October 16, 2016 2lb range is a good guess maybe 2.25. 6 Quote

Super User Darren. Posted October 18, 2016 Super User Posted October 18, 2016 Had a nice fill of 12 smallies recently with a few at 2 lbs. They sure do fight somethin' purdy!! Wish we had smallies in my area of VA. 1 Quote
"hamma" Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 I'd say over 2 lbs,.they sure are scrappy! Quote
52kjhintz Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 I enjoy catching them smallies, they have such a fight. Quote
jr231 Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 I like fishing for largemouth more.. I love when you catch a big one and you can get your whole hand (and then some) down its mouth. But the color of a small mouth has to be the most gorgeous fish pattern I've ever seen. 1 Quote

One thing I definitely enjoy more about smallmouth is I don't really need a boat to get into the good ones, at least not in the creek I fish. 1 minute ago, Yeajray231 said: Yea you do !!! Ha-ha. Mine will go with me occasionally, I took her on her first fishing trip when we were dating, she outfished me, and I've yet to hear the end of it, and that's been almost 12 years ago! 1 Quote
jr231 Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Ha-ha! I have a similar experience. I took mine crappie fishing, because she doesn't have the patience or the want to fish for bass with artificial... we used live minnows. And caught a whole mess.. I took us to the spot, Rigged em, cast it out and let her set the hook. She caught the biggest one(we were on some slabs too I had a blast) And she still tells me about it all the time. 1 Quote
Yudo1 Posted October 21, 2016 Posted October 21, 2016 I'd rather catch 2lb smallies over 3lb largies any day. They're so much fun. Quote
