kap1492 Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 Hey guys whats up, recently took some pics of my boat and want to get everyones input before I get started. The boat is a MirroCraft 14' Deep-V with a Evenrude 25 and Johnson 9.5. I recently purchased a Minn Kota Power Drive 55# 54" shaft. As you can see in the pictures, the boat has ben modified with floors and other simple improvements, but my main goal is to take it to the next level. I want to a casting deck from the front seat on, so I can mount my newly purchased Minn Kota PD 55# 54" shaft and a new anchor system. In no way am I trying to pimp out my Deep-V, I only want to create a more pleasurable fishing experience that will allow me to concentrate on fishing not the boat. I want to keep the project affordable (would like to stay in the $200-250 range) and be more user friendly. What material should I use and I would like to avoid drilling into the hull of the boat. Any ideas sure would help. http://www.shareaproject.com/pages/projectThumbs,p,200,00.html Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 #1 Move that fire extinguisher to the bow. Needs to be as far away from the fuel source as physically possible. Last place you want to keep it is where the actual fire would be. Quote
BiggerWorm Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 Looks like my first boat. Good idea to increase the platform. I would bring it up to about 4-5 inches from the top edge. Create some hatches in the floor for storage. Install a live well. If you dont have access to metal, use a cooler and install your own pumps. Take your time and it will be enjoyable, as well as rewarding when your done. But get started soon because fishing time has arrived. Quote
Mo_Tick Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 Your Boat is very similar to mine, 14' starcraft. i am adding a deck to mine. i am using 5/8 plywood the front bench seat on the rear and some support under it towards the front. just take your time. you'll be fine. so far ive added the Floors and have most of the wood purchased and am at 100.00, next is carpet, varnish and a few other things. i think my whole project will be under 250.00 or at least thats what im shooting for. Good Luck Quote
kap1492 Posted April 1, 2006 Author Posted April 1, 2006 All I really need to do befor the season starts is mount a deck for the trolling motors and anchor system. Any ideas? i want to have the strogest deck so I dont mess anything up during trailering and rough conditions. Quote
Rattlinrogue Posted April 1, 2006 Posted April 1, 2006 That boat has a lot of possibilities.I just put in a casting deck on an old Terry bass boat.I used 3/4 " plywood, carpeted it,installed a plug in along the edge for the trolling motor. It was a pretty easy deal.My son and I did the whole thing in about 5 hours.
