Cant believe this worked!

One of my home lakes had gone up about 3 ft, making it impossible to go under a bridge that was there. I was fishing near it and was catching a fish on almost every cast! I could hear fish splash in the tunnel now and then, so I got an interesting idea. The current was very strong going under the bridge (tunnel) so I threw my crank at the opening and let out line to let the current take it back. Started cranking down and right before it comes out from under the bridge it gets slammed! Lol couldn't help but laugh at the fact that it had actually worked!

I did that in a culvert with a jitterbug , it worked .

I do a similar thing all the time fishing rivers.  I'll chuck a fly or a lure upstream of overhanging brush or an undercut bank and let it drift through.

It works quite often.

Nicely done! There's a lake I fish that has one culvert that runs under a road and you can access both sides of it on the water. Depending on which way the wind is blowing, if you fish the opposite end of the culvert and skip a bait up into it, you'll usually catch one. It's not usually of that caliber though!

I've actually let baits get pulled up under the cables at the power plant lake I fish whenever there's an eddy along the shoreline. It's a great time to drift live shad for wipers because I put them under a bobber and the current pulls them right into the seam where all fish sit.

Were you fishing by the bridge at the Newport News Park? I saw that you liked those lakes. I have been there when i could not go under it and I have also been there where you could ONLY if you curled up in the boat floor. I lived in SE Virginia most of my life (Chesapeake, Suffolk, Carrollton) and fished at Newport News Park several times. Nice fish in the pic, by the way.
